1. I think I explained why Patterson might not select Saban. Besides, SABAN pretty much said the same when he signed the extension. 2. I've heard the same as you, concerning Powell's tenure here, and it has just been speculation. NO ONE, except Powell, knows how long he will be here. For sure Patterson doesn't. And it really doesn't matter what Powell cares about, it only matters what Patterson believes he cares about. If your boss tells you he doesn't like Saban, and you are the new kid on the block, are you going to fly your pick in his face, regardless if he has given you full authority on your pick? Especially, as a rookie and you don't really know the political lay of the land? One thing I would know, for sure, is that the BOR just gave my boss a vote of confidence that his job was secure. I would certainly take note of that.

Realize, of course, these are just my opinions and I could be 100% wrong. It just makes sense to me.
To be clear, I hope I am wrong and Saban is cleared to be hired.
