John Burt decision today

 OrangeBloods on Burt

"I just felt like Texas was the best school," Burt said. "It was a little bit of everything, the comfort, it's like a home away from home. I can be independent, but I also have that family feel with coach Vaughn being from Tallahassee and I have family that lives there also."

"The little things about Texas stood out more than any school," Burt said. "I knew about my decision two weeks ago."

"The facilities are really nice. The coaches, there's something about the coaches that kind of draws me towards them," Burt said, detailing what put Texas out in front. "Coach Vaughn, he's a really cool guy and I talk to him a lot."

"When (Strong) is not in the zone coaching, he's a really cool, laid back guy. He was excited, but he wasn't jumping all over the room or anything," Burt said. "That's not the kind of guy his is, but you could tell he was pretty excited."

"Early on, my first two years, I can bring size and speed. I can bring some underclassmen leadership and once I build my way up, I bring overall team leadership to go with the with on-field stuff," Burt said.

"It (the recruiting process) wasn't really bearing too much weight, but it was definitely heavy. Just bing able to finally move past it, it's a big relief," Burt said.

a couple of videos from today - watch the announcement at least (top one)

From watching video he doesnt have that world class speed that Roy has... I sure would be happy if he does turn out better though.
The speed is probably the biggest criticism for Burt but when he adds more bulk to his upper body he will be able to fight for balls up in the air like a champ.  The upside is big for him.

Seems like a nice young man.  I get a kick out of his voice inflection - a lot of inflection rise at the ends of sentences and a dipthong rise with a lot of interjected "Ums".  Not making fun of him at all ... I have just studied the way that people talk since I was young and I have never heard that particular manner of speaking before.  Hell ... play well enough and he will have everybody talking just like that!  ;)

Speed is the most overrated quality of a WR. . .

Route running, body control, actually being able to catch passes. . .all light years more important. .

Otherwise we'd just line up the 400 relay team every year. . . .

Jerry Rice  4.6 guy. . .Michael Irvin.  .only a nano faster.  ..

Burt is plenty fast enough. . . .

I caught that too, I just wondered if he was just nervous or if that is his natural inflection when speaking.

Maybe he has a girlfriend that moved to Florida from a particular street in the Valley ... in California.  ;)

Had an aggy friend of mine tell me that Burt has some grade issues. Any truth to this?
Your Aggy friend isn't very bright. I've not seen this mentioned on one site. I would think he has decent grades based on his family background but that's a guess. Regardless, I've never seen Burt mentioned with grade issues.

I've seen Lampkin mentioned with grade issues, but that originated from Sooner boards after he decommitted. Nobody legitimate has confirmed that Lampkin is a grade risk.
