Jesus Speaks. Others under attack

Insiders serve a purpose but unfortunately it's like putting a puzzle together with only half the pieces.

Everyone is too eager to fill in the gaps with stories that make sense or feel good to them.

If it's true that someone is claiming to know the WHY of Saban is staying in TTown, they are full of shit? Optics? Come on...Who can possibly know that?

Same for WHY Mack hasn't stepped down yet. To spite Chip Brown? Give me a break. That's a ridiculous notion worthy only of a screenwriter.

Yet people are already chiming in and spinning yarns mere minutes after the fact, as if they know *for a fact* a coach's personal motivations?

No one is THAT plugged in. It's a silly concept.

If the best coach in the game is willing to listen, you don't need a search committee... you send him your best offer and he accepts it or he doesn't. Make didn't want Saban coming to Texas and winning a couple championships and overshadowing what he has done. He doesn't care about Texas. He cares only about his legacy, which is ironic, because he is going to be a hated man when he leaves because that is all he cared about in the end.

I still believe Mack is gone by Sunday or Monday and we will form our search committee for plan B since coach fvckhead's ego is bigger than my d!ck.

Right on cue and proving my point...and w/ your avatar you're gonna bring up "the tinfoil cap"? Too damn ironic...
F MACK THE SNAKE OIL SALEMAN!

is that ok Hoekam? Get a grip.

Also, maybe Bing Irony sometime.

So basically we're at the point where Mack is still leaving, but it just won't be Saban to take his place.

I can live with that, IF that's the case.

Right now, Paula Abdul would be a better coach than Mack. Hell, I'd take that talking cat in her video over Mack.

This idea that Mack somehow, on his own, orchestrated Saban to fall through is absurd.

Saban just got 7.5 mil. How much was Texas REALLY going to pay?

And I am not talking about what some independent booster was willing to sign up for, working outside the well established procedures for hiring a state employee. That's not how this works.

Saban's agent had the Texas situation fall into his lap, played it brilliantly to the brink, and earned a huge pay raise for his coach while making his client look like a loyal hometown hero in the process!

We got played. The end.

I think you've misunderstood the "optics" thing with Saban. The guy just became the highest paid coach in college football. Texas comes along and pulls him away. He's a greedy schill and borderline coaching mercenary. Texas is a big bully and money monger and chased away a good man to bring in the hit man.

This is more or less opinion but it makes sense to me.

If they are all true to their word, Ketch is about to become the Vanderbilt of rival sites...lose all kinds of $$$
Yea right! He only has about 15,000 members. People will stay there for the restaurant rec's. Don't be silly!

Those "optics" were always there and were always going to be there even if Mack had stepped down Tuesday.

Notice that no one is calling him a greedy son of a bitch for scaring his employer into a 50% raise after a season in which he didn't even win his division.

They'd be saying that tonight if Texas hadn't been sitting there, ready to be manipulated, overly eager and painfully naive.

If you're going to ask a question, you might wait until you get an answer before you summarize the situation.

Texas had a base package of more than $8 mil per year. Texas BMDs had provided a deal to Saban that would have taken it north of $25 mil - UP FRONT. In addition, money was set aside to make his assistants the highest paid in the business.

Bama could never match that.

So either Saban doesn't care about money or Mack F'd the thing up by dragging it out and pitching a tantrum. I'll let you figure out what's more absurd.

You act like a HC at Texas for 16 years has no power to F things up. My God, he's spent the last four years doing that on a daily basis.

I just want to win football games.. Is that too much to ask?
Actually, no. I think it is setting the bar too low. Winning football games should be the result of running a top-notch program that develops players and produces outstanding individuals. Just wanting to win games is exactly what got us into this mess in the first place

Please do not take this personally as it is not intended to be an attack. I actually read this three times and thought to myself "me too" until I thought about what is making me so mad tonight--Mack's ability to make people forget what is truly important

No, they weren't. The longer this dragged out, the worse it looked for everyone.

You're free to believe whatever you like though.

And The University of Texas -- the actual University and not an unofficial representative acting outside of protocol -- blessed that deal?

The Board of Regents approved that deal while they already had a coach under contract?

That old bastard Jamail could earn himself another pile of millions with lawsuits if that were truth.

Here's an idea for the geniuses who blew the Saban deal...might need to remember it next week.

You secure the f##king buyout/termination terms BEFORE you go dance with the devil.

No, they were not told to bless anything yet. But they were aware of what the numbers were.

JJ was perfectly aware of it all through the whole thing.

You obviously haven't seen anything like this get done before.

Your priorities are wrong. First, focus your attention on what reporters say and then what people post on message boards. Focus on winning football games after that, oh and also after you've checked out for 4 seasons but keep becoming "reenergized."

Have you been there today?

If Saban came to Texas he would have 25K

Neither of us have seen this get done before, because it would be an unprecedented course of action for the hiring of a new head football coach at The University of Texas.

One thing I *have* seen get done before, personally, is the execution of extremely sensitive multi million dollar contracts. And the first rule, the ONLY rule, is everyone keeps their mouth shut.

So I go back to what I hypothesized somewhere earlier. This was getting leaked intentionally to try and gain consensus to push Mack out and get him out of the way so they could bring this deal to the BOR in Austin and be the conquering heroes.

If instead, as you claim, it was a unified effort with unified "unofficial" BOR support and somehow they forgot to have a plan in hand for dealing with Mack, then we're worse than Aggies... and every single person involved is to be blamed for utter incompetence. And I could only assume that the leaks were then just a sign of said incompetence.

There's a whole thread on that sentence fragment right there.

Sold out games everywhere. Recruits lining up. Longhorn stuff selling like never before. The momentum that hire would have created would have been insane.

It's difficult to answer questions about circumstances that only exist in your head.

The idea that these folks didn't have a plan for Mack is laughable. Think Fred Thompson in Crimson Tide. The Russians don't take a piss without having a plan. That plan went through Powers, who in exchange got the support he needed to make it to retirement.

Mack just F'd them on that plan but Powers, IMO, is the one who stands between Mack and those BMDs. Again, this isn't hard to understand. Mack Brown still has the power to F things up at Texas. But what was once going to be a nice thing for Mack probably won't be so nice now. And that's speaking of it nicely.
