Heard is not spending his Spring Break in South Padre like most HS students but rather is spending it in San Diego with QB trainer George Whitfield.

This is an example of the kind of player we want at Texas. All business. #Heard

Already putting in the time to better his game. Like the early work ethic, bodes well for the future. Now get that redshirt year under your belt, learn from the coaches and suit up in 2015!

I hope it works out. I think Connor Wood did the same thing and couldn't beat out Case McCoy.

...actually, I think that "jerrod" is anticipating that there is just waaaay too much at stake. i for one, am currently under the mindset that "jerrod" shall need to just turn back into a prospective college kid... leave all of the "nervous anticipation" to his coaching hierarchy.

jerrod, has more than openly earned his prospective position upon the "40 acres".... and his time shall be forthcoming. there is just no "desperation" or "johnny manziel" type of angst needed at this point upon his very young career.

jerrod, has indeed selected a nice spot (san diego) to carry out his quarterbacking fundamentals. I say LEAVE IT ALONE! and venture forth and enjoy your spring vacation... just like all of the others... for this shall not diminish you or your profound athletic ability upon the very least.

and at the very end of the day "young commit".... please know, that your last name is indeed "heard" and your "40" awaits!

That had a lot more to do with the last name of the quarterbacks and not the talent they had.

I love the fact that Heard is dedicated to improving his skills and taking a leadership role by putting his team above himself.

manziel has spent the past few offseasons with whitfield.

i think whitfield does a good job...he specializes in working with dual threat guys, which (in my opinion) leads his pupils to be a little less comfortable in the pocket.

I don't know whether to be more impressed by Jerrod's commitment or his parents.

Whitfield's private tutoring has gotta cost serious $$$. I wonder if he's aligned with any agents? Just thinking out loud.

I would be 115% astonished (and angered) if he doesnt.
if ash is healthy and the usc transfer works out, it would be silly not to RS him. but if ash/wittek don't pan out, he's no worse than #2 on the depth chart and almost certainly would end up playing. hell, in that scenario he might be starting. long way to go.

If he shirts and he turns out to be great, you get two years maybe three..plays as a freshman you get 3 for sure, he will be the only QB on the roster that the coaches have a clean slate with as well. I think he plays, I am not hoping for it, but playing Heard early would allow the coaching staff the opportunity to truly do their own thing with new blood. I would like to see him shirt so her can learn, but if he plays I won't be upset, as long as he plays often, very often. Ash would have to be hurt for significant time, and Swoopes would have to prove that he isn't viable ( I hope he is, I also could see him becoming a TE before it's all said and done). I am not as high on the USC transfer, he didn't win the job there, and I really don't think he's all that great (>Case, but that's not saying much.), and he isn't here until he is here.
Heard wants the job, I believe that is very clear to everyone involved. If he was an early enrollee, he would have as good a shot as anyone because everyone would be learning a new offense. Wanting the job isn't enough though, I am sure all the QBs on the roster want the job, it will come down to who can take it. I am excited to see who emerges.

Whitfield (per LHN last night) is Heard's uncle...

Really? I missed that last night.
Good deal for Jerrod
They interviewed Whitfield (via conference call) on Longhorn Extra last night and I cudda swore she said "he just happens to be his uncle". I can't seem to confirm that anywhere on the net tho...
