In a bit of unexpected news, redshirt freshman offensive tackle Jean Delance has announced he is transferring from Texas and has been granted his release.

Delance has mainly been working with the twos and threes, but this comes a bit out of nowhere.

Wow. He had a very legit shot to be the starting LT as a sophomore.

Depth is getting smaller and OL is the worst position group for us on the recruiting trail.

Wow, I thought Delance was in line to take Williams place next year. Personality conflict with a coach perhaps?

Wouldn't be surprised if Herman told him he was going to redshirt.

He already has. I think. Or did he play some last year?
Delance played in 2 games last year per Texassports.com

Another indication Strong didn't have a plan moving forward.

Just a guess as to why... Herman wants mental toughness as well as physical toughness. If you can't take tough criticism, you're in the wrong program.

Anyway, hope the young man finds what he's looking for. Thanks for the time he gave us.

I think its a depth chart thing. He was running 2s and 3s with new blood coming in. Delance is someone who probably expected to be higher up the totem pole right now. So IMO, he simply wants playing time and doesn't think he'll find it here, or at least to his satisfaction.

Good luck to him wherever he winds up.

It all goes back to everyone getting a trophy. So the message here is that when things are tough, or don't go your way immediately, you leave? This is NOT the kind of player mentality we need in the fourth quarter of a championship game. I'm not sure how much dog Delance has in him and I'm glad we found out now.

I would think that almost every transfer is due to the kid not having enough "dog" in him. Sometimes the kid realizes it but most of the time the coaching staff lets him know one way or another. And that's okay with me.

He had fallen from 2's to 3's, it's a depth chart thing, no doubt.  He also wasn't properly #aligned
