Its time to fire Strong

Well, based on what I was just told by someone who would know, it looks like Charlie will be gone by end of season. A small faction was ready to do it even after OU. Now, it's standing room only in this faction. In their collective opinion, there is too much at stake to continue on (brand, recruiting, etc).

It's a $15 mil buyout and no one is blinking. Plus, the new coach's salary. No one is blinking.

I was told that whatever new coach they get will know well how to compete with the Big 12 offenses. It sounded as if someone is already in mind. Or two.

For me, I call Hermann right now.

Any updates on this?

I say Charlie should be given a third year and the more I think about it . He should have the decision himself as to whether he fires or hires any of assistant coaches.  If Charlie wants to keep his OC , his DC  heck who ever  then so be it.  That way if things change next year be it to better or worse it will have been his decision.  If Charlie makes a change to a new OC I want that to be his decision based upon what he feels is needed as the Head Coach.
Totally agree. If you don't have enough confidence in a coach to let him hire his own staff, then you have the wrong coach. His decisions should make or break him. Not someone else's.

I haven't seen it. I believe it was Nahlin posting. The website is Spurstalk.com or something like that. I clicked a link to it the other day and was able to view everything just fine.

If Nahlin is speculating, then I feel better. But again, he is connected so his speculation includes some behind the scenes info as its list of considerations.

I have long thought Year 3 would be the turning point for Charlie and this team. I still feel that way. I'd hate to see Charlie leave or be chased away before the good stuff starts happening.  If it doesn't happen in Year 3, then let him go and find another coach, IMO.
Thanks.

Just remember he was 2-4 in year 2 at Louisville and then went 11-2 in year 3.  He needs one more year.  We need to get a very good OC this off season.

I think Charlie should be given a third year. However it bothers me greatly that he held onto Watson after last season and through the spring when Watson totally screwed up the quarterback position. He (CS) should have seen that and did not. That is a red flag to me as for as his being a great coach. Hope I am wrong.

IMHO, our expectations for this year were too low. Worst case scenario, this year should have been 6-6 and best case scenario 8-4. And it is not unreasonable to believe that we could be 7-3 right now as the Cal, OSU, and WVA games were all winnable despite how young this team is.

For me, I don't care for the thinking that we need to just wait until Charlie gets his players in here. The team he has right now and the team he had last year IS his team. He knew, or should have known, exactly what he was getting into when he took the team. I didn't really care for him saying something about just wait until he gets another recruiting class. To me, he was just making excuses.

If this team finishes 4-8, I think that will be a colossal failure. While I really think he should get a 3rd year, I wouldn't have a problem letting him go after a 4-8 year.

THIS

Last I heard, BMDs were biting chunks out of their lips.
A few posters on OB who some think are connected have basically been saying the same thing the past few days. Two of them have been pretty adamant that the end is very near as in like two games. I guess we will all know very soon.

Any insight into Perrin's role and his opinion of CS?

Perrin drives the bus. Thats all he's asked to do. My impression is that he'll do whatever he thinks the herd wants.

Just had another conversation just in the past half hour with someone who spilled some stuff. Very discouraging, does not look good for Charlie if he loses to Tech.

That said, I don't expect to lose to Tech.

Very seldom does any college football program get it right with their first hire when replacing a legend.  Look how many Coaches Alabama hired and fired after Stallings before they got Saban, USC is still trying to find their next Pete Carroll, A&M still not sure about Sumlin, Nebraska will probably be making another hire in 2 years, and look at Notre Dame and the number of Coaches they went thru before they got to Kelly.  If we do lose or fire Charlie then I would not be surprised if we go thru two additional head Coaches before we find our long term solution. Winning changes everything of course, but what has been obviouse to everyone is that this team is not improving as they keep making the same mistakes over and over each game and this is why everyone is calling for Charlie to be fired. If we saw a football team that was improving their play, and playing with energy that got the fan base excited about the future then there would not even be much of a discussion about firing Charlie.   A good Coach can accomplish that no matter if the team is young or not.

I call bullshit. Perrin didn't leave his practice to come to Austin to be a mouthpiece and puppet for those blathering idiots who occasionally write the big checks. Maybe Perrin decides Strong needs to go (unlikely, but as a hypothetical let's say he does) it won't be because he was pressured into it by a few assholes with private planes.

I have no reason to expect a win over Tech, but I do think Strong will be retained regardless. I also have no reason to know if I am right or not.

So two weeks ago he was out now he is out if we lose to Tech. See here is my problem  I know you are only reporting what is told to you but this is the reason you cannot report things as fact. For example these people you are talking to are they giving their opinions or are they giving factual evidence? I guess I should not care but I just think it would be better to frame the way this info is presented that these thoughts are not 100% and are just thoughts of people who may be in the know. But again I am a nobody it is your post and you can do it anyway you want.
