Bama people got be other-worldly dumb not to have any buy-out clause in Saban's new contract. There's gotta be some type of financial disincentive or penalty. Otherwise, the contract has no teeth or protection for Alabama.I posted this on an earlier thread:
I think Saban is still in play for a lot of reasons:
1. Mack has left on his own accord (officially) and is no longer in any position to stand in the way.
2. There's still the matter of a $5.7 mil home he just purchased.
3. The UT offer dwarfs his Bama contract and it's a known fact he lost plenty of money on investments.
4. He has friends among the BMD's who have offered investment deals.
5. He would be a splash hire and he knows TX is a big time recruiters paradise and he would have a blank check to hire coaches.
6. Ego. One of his main motivating factors in leaving Bama was to become the first coach to win Natty's at 3 different schools!
7. I'm sure I may have left something else out but my main reason for thinking that he is still in play is this: I have read a couple of times that his new contract has no buy-out clause. This had to be his decision and not Bama's. I am sure that Bama would have wanted a hefty buy-out to be a part of such a large extension. This means that there is nothing to stop him from leaving at any time. The scenario would play out like this: He continually down plays any real interest in TX while everything dies down and it becomes clear that he had no actual part in Macks retirement. He waits and lets Sexton negotiate an even better deal with the BMD's who now want him more than ever (forbidden fruit). With new deal in hand he pleads his case that he never wanted to leave but the offer was just too great to turn down. Say what you want but there are just too many reasons why it still could happen!
Go on...Patterson did say he would love to have his new coach here on Tuesday morning. Lol
It has nothing to do with being dumb and everything to do with it's a deal breaker for Saban. If you want Saban as your coach there is no buyout, at least at Alabama. It's all about who has the leverage...and Saban has all the leverage when it comes to negotiating with Alabama.Bama people got be other-worldly dumb not to have any buy-out clause in Saban's new contract. There's gotta be some type of financial disincentive or penalty. Otherwise, the contract has no teeth or protection for Alabama.
Are you referring to our former AD not going along with it?It would be great if for no other reason than to stick it to Mack - but I don't think Dodds will go along with it.
I am told we are talking again as well. The fact that Mack is finally out has brought both sides back to the table. We have an uphill battle, but we are least in the game. The reason(s) we are still in the game are outlined above amongst others. The biggest issue going further will be the future role Mack will play within the University. Mack's role will have to be clearly defined (think fundraiser) with a clear and significant firewall between Mack and the football department. Remember, the basic financials are in place. However, we have to rebuilt all of the trust that was lost in the last 48-72 hours.I was told today they're talking. They're talking to a lot of folks but the first conversation has still not ended, apparently.
May result in nothing more than kind farewells, but it's something that they're talking at all, IMO.
I believe he meant Powers. Are you referring to our former AD not going along with it?
You have never seen anything compared to what would happen... Football isn't just football to them, its literally their life.IF Saban did come, would Alabama's fans meltdown be more epic than ours was?
The extension has not been executed by the Alabama BORSo has Saban OFFICIALLY signe dhis new deal, or did he just say he agreed to it?
