This is Pattersons show

Spoke to a member of the search committee that told me they have done absolutely nothing.

It is all for show.

Patterson will choose whomever he wants. Which is a little scary.

He may not care about every BmD faction

Interesting. Seems like he would want to be careful with the BMDs so as not to disrupt the cash flow from them etc., but at the same time, he won't be able to please everyone no matter who he chooses.

Good info, but not surprised. I think it was always going to be that way.

Jesus and others had been mentioning going back to at least last week the committee had not met, and may not meet

That said - there is no way I believe Patterson has had no conversations with anyone on there especially Bob Rowling and Steve Hicks. Of course he has

Not overly surprised but having done absolutely nothing doesn't necessarily equate to not being kept in the loop.

If it is, then it is not concerning to me. I will let him prove one way or the other before I begin to form an opinion on his ability.

people had been saying and debating for a long time that the AD should hire a coach and not have the BMD's control everything. Im sure he's getting input.

It's impossible to please everyone, especially BMD's with huge egos and strong opinions. Powers and the BOR are doing the right thing entrusting the decision to Patterson. He's a pro - let him earn his money!

You didn't need to speak to a member of the committee to know that said committee was put together only to smooth out the perception of this search.

It was clear the moment this committee was announced that it was "for show" only. Anyone could have figured that out pretty quickly.

I agree...I think the committee was just to be prepared in case there is a need to move on to a plan B/C/D.

They currently have no reason to meet unless/until Saban declines.

Not all of the people on the Selection Committee are equally involved. Patterson is in sync with a few of them and will not make a decision without their stamp of approval.

I actually find this a little encouraging. I want the right head coach for the University of Texas, whoever that might be, not the right coach for one group of BMD's over the other. I definitely think that they should be consulted/included in the search to a point since they do throw a ton of $$ UT's way and would hate to see any of that go away but I'd hate to see the hire made based on which faction of BMD's swings the biggest peckers. I was not a fan of the way DD seemed to be more concerned about his good ole boy network and complacent because of the money rolling in, so to have an AD who's not afraid to take charge is a welcome change.

I have to say that I kind of like this. At the end of the day it's his butt that's on the line, BMDs will be BMDs if Patterson flops and is booted. If they don't like the initial hire then they will voice it, but it won't mean a darn thing if Texas wins. All of us, just like the BMDs have "our" guy, only one group is going to be truly pleased. If I am Patterson I am going down with the guy I believe in, not someone that is pushed down my throat. Patterson is a sports guy, a specialist, he knows what he is doing. Not to offend the BMDs, but I think some of these guys have Jerry Jones syndrome; having money does not make you the sharpest guy in the room.
