Insiders...Mack

There are many coaches that can succeed at Texas but not many home runs.

How many college coaches out there are proven and "home runs?"

Saban, Meyer that's all I would consider home runs. I would put Briles next to me he is coach of the decade for doing what he is a Bu. Baylor was not a sleeping giant.

McPhaul,
I am new to the board I enjoyed reading you on OB. Is Mora, Jr. really our backup option? It seems a school like Texas should be able to shoot higher than that. I know he is an experienced coach and all, but by no means does he seem to be a home run.
I have heard the name and that Patterson is a fan of his but, I don't know how serious of a candidate he is?

Baylor was definitely no sleeping giant before Briles! Art Briles is certainly making a name for himself! I expect the NFL will be calling him before his contract with BU expires.

Valid points

Welcome this site and TR has been a life saver for me since I left OB. The good people on HS and TR are a breath of fresh air. My friends y'all have a great week.

But he an aarogant a hole. It's what makes him.so great.
There are 123 FBS schools, 125 FCS schools, 156 D2 schools, 239 D3 schools, 92 NAIA schools and 68 JUCOs. 564 totals colleges each with 10 coaches (more or less). 5,600 coaches. If I was the top of the pile and could out think, out strategize and out game every one of them year, after year after year you are goddamned right people would think I'm an arrogant asshole. Saban is more worried about being right than being loved by those who don't know him. I wish Mack was more worried about being right. Greg Davis and Manny Diaz showed Mack's priority isn't being right and it isn't winning.

I have warmed up to Malzahn

He is a younger Briles and he has turned Auburn around from 3-9 to 10-1 his first year. He also went into CS and beat Manziel.

Malzahn combined with the DC from MSU or Muschamp would be deadly. His offenses would be unreal at Texas....his roots are in Arkansas but he was born in Irving, Texas

A quick review of Malzahn shows he has a better record of success than Briles. He has won everywhere he has been. Drastic turn arounds. All of that without being in the middle of Texas for recruiting. I would be thrilled if he was the backup plan for Saban.

I have a hard time believing that Saban will leave a well oiled machine to come and fix a broken one.

I know there is smoke, but I jus have a hard time believing it.

If not Saban, I think Gus or Mora would do a good job, especially with "playoffs, did you say playoffs" looming.

I never met anyone in athletics who was successful who didn't have extreme confidence...or arrogance if you prefer.

BTW, nice board McPhaul.

I think Jim Harbaugh is a home run. Don't want Mora but I would love to have Shaw or Malzahn.
