He had a room full of recruits, players, UT officials and tv cameras. National media were even watchjng. Why stay silent? Could have ended all this. Hope the news isn't true. It's still been left up in the air

Chip Brown is getting murdered on OB

He's under contract and hasn't been fired. Why would he announce he's coming back when it was based on rumor? Apparently he's not being asked to leave so why a need to confirm you're staying?

Seriously? Mack retiring has been on every sports channel this past week. Hell, ESPN sent Holly Rowe to camp out in Austin. Pretty sure he needs to confirm something.

There is no way mack or Texas can just let this go and not have something very definative soon. Everyone knew mack was meeting with powers and Patterson today. Espn has reported mack was still fighting for his job. His stay at Texas has been very up in the air all year.

They have to say something. Tonight in that setting would have made big sense. Texas better say something soon as this will keep spiraling out of control with silence

imagine what schools will be telling our recriuts? were a fing joke atm..no leadership and a lame duck coack.

So you are still sticking with the pinebox narrative that IT is selling huh?
I think it's not over yet as if it was Patterson wouldn't be refusing to comment and the whole night wouldn't have felt like a goodbye to mack with mack and Sally looking less than happy in the audience at times. If it's over then there would be no reason to continue this uncertainty past tonight

I think he's coming back and JS needs his ass kicked just as much as Chip. He royally screwed the pooch too.

I'm with the OP.

Why not just announce at the banquet. He's the last speaker. If he's coming back that was set up perfectly for him to announce he wasn't going anywhere and he'd be back coaching the Horns in 2014. Yet there was nothing. Something doesn't add up here.

Also Burton's report is Mack will remain as HC. That doesn't necessarily mean he will be the HC in 2014. With all the talk that Texas won't go long without a HC, I think they are moving on to the next candidates and until they have their guy, there won't be any retirement announcement.

And yeah he's still under contract but no way can Texas go on like nothing happened. There were reports from all the Longhorn sites and national sites that he was stepping down. It is out there why not address it when all eyes were on him.
