If Darrell Royal were alive...

I've had this thought running through my head for the past couple weeks. If Darrell Royal were alive would all this have played out differently? From the contact with Saban back at the beginning of the year, to the cluster that has been this season (not from the on-the-field position but rather the off-the-field stuff such as Diaz being held over and then fired, Mack apparently making deals to win out/win the conference or retire, BMDs getting Saban lined up), to the past 7 days of how Mack has handled what should have been a graceful exit and is burning every ounce of goodwill he had built up. I wasn't old enough to pay attention when DKR stepped down but he obviously had the sense to see when the time was to exit. I understand he wanted Campbell to be promoted to HC, and that we went with Akers instead, and there was tension because of that, but he also didn't stand in the way of letting that happen.

It just appears Mack is handling this situation completely opposite from the way DKR would, and I just wonder if DKR was around whether he would give Mack counsel that he would actually listen to?
