I'll keep it respectful per Darrell's wishes, but my concern with Red's comments are what we're seeing now. National embarrassment with implications of racism from rich Texas boosters. His comments were and are very damaging and unlike an older relative that says crazy stuff within the family, Red went on an ESPN affiliate which is now getting national air time. Red is a smart guy. You don't make the truckloads of $ he has by being stupid, but to say Strong would be a great position coach and "maybe" a decent coordinator is beyond bizarre. Strong was such a successful DC at schools like Florida where his defenses were largely responsible for 2 National championships, that he was offered the Head gig at Louisville. Louisville was struggling mightily in a weaker conference, but Strong turned things around immediately as the HEAD COACH and went 23-3 in his last 2 seasons. Red had to know this, yet verbalized very negative opinions by getting ignored during the search. I think Red was certainly miffed that his candidate, Gruden, wasn't given an interview and especially after all the $ Red has given Texas etc. Anyway, all his $ is not worth the national embarrassment he has caused our school and our football program. I would have anticipated such reactions from Aggie BMDs when Sumlin was hired, but not from Texas BMDs after Strong's hire.
