Well, then you'd better get prepared to lose BIG TIME to aggie and the SEC until 2025 because the Big12 owns our TV rights until then.  Only the outstanding lawsuits and a potential P5 breakaway are going to change our conference affiliation in the short-term.  That's a fact.   **** And i'd guess a change due to those factors is more likely than not.

I guess the reality gets back to what RD is saying.  SEC and aggie's publicity and media departments do a helluva lot better job selling their products to prospective recruits than ours do.  Now that is something we can potentially control. **** Fair point. We went in a 4-year funk with a lame-duck coach (or so it seemed) the same time aggy had the most talked about player in the game. Bad timing. Charlie's a different, old school kind of coach. if his approach yields results Texas and a&m will assume their normal places in the world. if his approach doesn't, then we won't...for a while.

Too much TBD for me to wet my pants just yet....like actually playing a game before hitting the panic button.

sorry joeywa, i love you my pal... but may you please try selling your aforementioned sentiment to our great state's prospective recruits.  it has become quite evident to all (that matters anyway) that TEXAS is no longer the "jones's" upon their collective eyes.  upon their view, i think that we have become more akin to the "smiths".  (everybody's anybody)  

today's very sophisticated recruits, are hereby searching for that major entity vs source, that shall enable them to elevate their respective NFL dreams, goals, and future.  as you are now keenly aware... a major vs more prominent amount of them, no longer view TEXAS as that particular source.  upon my own personal view, DELOSS DODDS, BILL POWERS, MACK BROWN, along with a few of our noted BMD's... have done TEXAS a huge disservice, as per their greed, ultra conservative views, and outright much heralded arrogance.

Agree that Bellmont is doing many things right (perhaps in spite of themselves), but there's obviously room for improvement. Otherwise why hire Disney as a consultant?  I'm with RD - a "Monument Park" accessible to all fans is a good idea.  

A tourist attraction for alumni & fans and a very positive way to promote Texas Football.

There is a huge difference between. . ."we can always improve" (I agree) and the hysterical ranting that somehow we are the Titanic and we have hit an ice berg . . . .

Personally I think a Monument Park is a GREAT idea. . . 

Another idea. . . are you aware we are a Memorial park? Unlike the agroids. . .with the names of those who gave their lives in WWI and WWII honored with bronze plaques around the stadium. . . .

Would be nice to have a video screen (much like the one to find your brick at the Alumi Center) so you could find those plaques and learn about those men. . . .I for one would like to see Jack Chivignay's. . .. if he is there. . . .

TEXAS football draws the highest revenues (gross and net). . . I could care less about "creativity" when you are leading the nation .. . 

T Day night games were set up BEFORE the NFL went to a Thursday night game and BEFORE the SEC decided to allow anyone but Miss St/Ole Miss to play. . . .

Simple solution is going back to Friday afternoon/evening game where there is little to no competition for viewers but a large football hungry audience. . 

You seem to think as if I am some sort of fu@king moron. Yes, i know UT was playing football on Thanksgiving before the NFL started scheduling night games on that day. I was at a number of them. That being said, times have changed. In fact, UT was playing football on Thanksgiving Day far before the NFL even existed.

The NFL is the most popular professional sports entertainment product in North America. Scheduling a meaningless, crap game head to head against two Super Bowl contenders is an example of the stupidity that exemplifies Bellmont as of late. It essentially means we will get ZERO ratings and visibility on what otherwise is a big weekend for casual college sports fans flipping channels, looking for something to watch. They will be locked on the NFL game that is going on while we are flailing around against a meaningless team and flipping channels when we could draw them to watch our game. Sheer insanity. Times have changed. The Thanksgiving game costs our program visibility instead of showcasing it and no one within Bellmont has a clue about the problem.

Texas leads the nation in revenues because Austin is the largest city in the nation without a pro sports franchise, not because Bellmont is so skilled at making gold out of dog crap. Austin has a population of 1.8 million, far more than San Francisco and a number of other cities. The population is projected to be at 3.0 million by 2030. We won't have a pro sports franchise then and we will still lead the nation's colleges in revenues. We lead the nation in revenues in spite of Bellmont, not because of Bellmont. 

As for your "simple solution" it doesn't matter. The morons in Bellmont have no interest in changing anything, because they don't have to deliver any value. They don't have to justify their being on the payroll. And because the attitude of complacency exemplifies those who are mis-managing the marketing of the program, we are getting laughed at by increasing numbers of fans inside and outside the state due to the fact the fu@king farmers are making us look like idiots. 17 year old kids are laughing in our coach's face when he offers them a scholarship because they would rather go to school at the "hip college" that is the fu@king cow college in Craphole Station. 

I am glad "you could care less" about creativity. I personally couldn't care less about those who don't think creativity plays a role in marketing entertainment products.  You seem oblivious to the fact our brand is deteriorating and it's people who are lazy and complacent about our past accomplishments that are causing the problems for the program. 

The "yawn, We're Texas, we don't have to do anything right" attitude of entitlement is so ingrained in some of the administrators and fans that it amazes me. Arrogance and complacency is why we are losing ground to the farmers and why they are kicking the crap out of the image of our program. People think "We're Texas" and since the world revolves around us, we don't even have to try. They believe it rightfully just comes our way. No it doesn't.

B )  Actually the Austin TV market is about the size of the Louisville market and well behind cities like Salt Lake, Raliegh Durham, Birmingham, Greenville-Spartansberg, Columbus Oh Hartford Las Vegas or West Palm. . . .in reality it's nowhere near the largest metropolitan area (what actually matters, not city limits) in the nation without a pro team.

Deloss Dodds was actually quite good at that aspect of his job .. . much like Jerry Jones is a GREAT owner though lousy GM. . .

Competitively, I'm not concerned about what's happening with CFS, his player evaluations, and recruiting YET.

I do, however, think RD is absolutely right about Bellmont's complacency and "We're Texas" arrogance.  Thus far, Patterson hasn't done much to trim the fat based on what I've seen and what's been reported.  I realize that he hasn't been on the job very long, but when are we going to see something positive on the game experience, new/upgraded facilities, marketing & publicity fronts?  All we've got to look forward to now besides CFS is potentially beer being sold at DKR.

ESPN, CBS, and aggies' spin machine have done a masterful job positioning Collie Station as hip & cool.  Mind-boggling is what it is if you've ever spent any time in Hazzard County.  We've got to do a better job presenting our story, Austin, and what makes UT the hippest, coolest, and best University in TX if not the USA!

Great call!  You should try it!  Especially good on New Year's Eve watching people try it who usually do not partake of alcoholic beverages.  To be kind, you should watch them, limit their intake, and make sure that they have a ride home. In the meantime, you will surely be entertained!  Much more enjoyment would be had, I should say, than sitting around with a bunch of old fuddie duddies, swirling, sipping, and making comments about hints of smoke, malt, peat, and having a piquance of gravel yet a subdued hint of flint.  Ice cream makes everything better!

The television market isn't the issue. Television viewers aren't paying up to sit in the suites. Television viewers aren't the reason the south end zone project is being planned. Television viewers aren't buying $60 mil in tickets to UT sports. Television viewers aren't driving revenues for concessions or giving donations which are one fourth of the total revenue of the program.

When I was talking about the population of 1.8 million, it included the corporate entities who have no other local option for live sports entertainment for marketing opportunities.

But hey, you have all the answers and in your mind Bellmont is doing a wonderful job. They are just getting schooled in marketing by a second tier program in a craphole of a location. Lol.

The best part of the ags playing LSU on Thanksgiving in Baton Rouge every other year will be able that those who choose to stay in New Orleans will be able to make new friends and even be able to catch the Bayou Classic on Saturday. Maybe the aggy band will pick up a few new moves and incorporate them into their routines in years to come.

At what point does moving to the SEC become an option? Or does it, because it seems like our fan base is getting flustered and frustrated by the rise of A&M, the popularity of the SEC, and it's growing impact but yet we think we are too good to be part of the SEC.
