HS FOOTBALL THIS WEEK 12-8

At the coin flip of today's Aledo vs John Tyler game, John Tyler captains refused to shake the hands of their Aledo counterparts.

Predictably, it backfired. Aledo blew them out, 44-14.

Skyline 28

Allen 17

3rd

Wow, Skyline just got another TD against the defending 2013 Champ but missed the PAT:

Skyline 34

Allen     17

The Eagles are in a big hole and serious trouble late in the 3rd....

Wow, in the blink of an eye, Allen bomb and in 2 plays for 69 yards, Allen gets a TD to bring it to 24-34 Skyline with about 2 min. in the 3rd.... a lot of time ladies and gentlemen.

Allen again... now it is:

Skyline 34

Allen     31

with about 10 min in the 4th..

Wow, what a great game this is!!

Allen      38

Skyline   34

about 6 min left.

If I heard correctly, aggy commit QB Kyler Murray of Allen has over 500 yds passing and over 100 yds rushing tonight as Allen will win 52-34 with < 2 min.  left in the game.

Wow, what a game that must have been.

FINAL

#1 Aledo vs #4 Temple in next weekend's 5A Div 1 State Championship!

Still surprised Katy pulled that one out. They may well be one of those teams of Destiny this year.

Oh, while I think Rodney Anderson is a solid High school running back, he just doesn't leap out as elite to me. He quite often misses the right whole and seems to run up the back of an OLineman. Then the next play he'll hit a crease hat you don't see till he gets there. He trusts his scheme. Which is good but may well be the result of great coaching. Put it this way, I'm not loosing any sleep over him going to the land thieves.

I would attribute it to good coaching and a team that plays well together. We'll see if that can overcome the talent and speed of Cedar Hill. Should be a great game.

Texas is talking to the junior RB at Katy, can't remember his name.

That short kickoff by Steele just after they took the lead with about 2 minutes left in the game doomed them.

Katy: a team where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. No single player jumps off the page. Each player knows what his job is and does it. They've done it the same way year after year after year.

Katy teams in recent years remind me of some of the great teams that came out of Plano in the 80' and 90's that won a bunch of state championships - "as a whole" and with good coaching. A few 4 star players - like Rex Burkhead - RB that went to Nebraska.  Over that time but not a lot of big time individual talent, but enough as a whole to win games.
