After 16 weeks, we are at the end of the long journey for two teams in each classification/division in Texas High School football. While excitement reigns, it's also sad to see it come to an end.

The last chapter will be written this weekend and there promises to be a number of memorable match ups left to experience. For instance:

1. Cedar Hill and Katy will square off for the state title for the third year in a row. Safe to say these two programs know each other well. Katy has won one, Cedar Hill the other.

2. Texas target Ryan Newsome will lead Aledo in search of their fourth title in five years – but a highly regarded and fourth ranked Temple looms.

3. Two teams nobody picked to be here - Mineola and Cameron Yoe - could not be more different in tradition. Yoe has a wall of titles while Mineola is now breaking onto the scene after years of frustration.

4. Has there been a more anticipated final than Gilmer vs West Orange-Stark? TONS of talent on display in this one, including Texas targets Kris and Demarko Boyd.

TELEVISION – All games will be televised via FoxSports Southwest and FSSW Plus.

I was at the Argyle vs Graham game on Friday night.

What a well-played, physical ballgame!  Those boys played their hearts out.  It's a shame the Steers' season ended, but they did themselves proud against the defending state champs.

I believe these state championships this year have the best matchups imaginable in most classifications. I believe the best 4 teams for sure made it in Class 4A and 2A. Katy, Cedar Hill, and Allen have been the best programs in the top classification for years now. Aledo is always strong and Temple is an intriguing team with Chad President. 3A features a couple of East Texas powers and a Yoe team that continues to make it despite seeming to rebuild year after year. It should be a fun weekend and I suspect a couple of players will make a name for themselves to folks across the state who may not know just how good they are.

Some surprises in this list. Kris Boy is Hon Mention DB? Daylon Mack 2nd team? Deonta Thompson on the Hon Mention list?

A Big Name In High School Coaching Announces Retirement

Lineweaver is Longhorn commit Patrick Vahe's head coach

Euless Trinity football coach Steve Lineweaver, 68, announced his retirement Tuesday after a state championship career marked with success at Southlake Carroll, Commerce and Trinity. His career will be remembered as much for two-point conversion attempts, fake punts on fourth down, pre-game dances, a Gatorade commercial with Bill Parcells and a zest for football, teaching and camaraderie which lasted 47 years

Arriving at Trinity in 2000, Lineweaver's program won Class 5A titles in 2005, 2007 and 2009 but his program will be known more for bonding community around a physical, hard-nosed style which also had Lineweaver playing "Don't Worry, Be Happy," in the locker room before games. He was known for using Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" as background for pre-game speeches.

The trademark of a program which was known as much for its team dances of the Haka and Sipi Tau is no coincidence in Lineweaver's 15-year tenure. Trinity experienced great onfield success with its three state titles, a state final berth in 2010, dozens of players getting college scholarships and winning 10 or more games in his last 11 seasons.

Hurst Euless Bedford ISD athletic director Mike Fielder announced Lineweaver's decision and Lineweaver declined immediate comment. Trinity's season ended two weeks ago in a dramatic loss to two-time defending state champion Allen.

Lineweaver had a 175-29 record in 15 seasons at Trinity but he'd already established himself as a future Texas Hall of Honor coach. In seven seasons at Commerce, his program won a 3A state title in 1999 and could have another state co-championship in 1995 by kicking an extra point but Lineweaver went for a 2-point conversion pass on the extra point and lost 21-20 against Sealy for the class 3A title. Lineweaver said he made the decision because he liked how Tom Osborne had done it at Nebraska against Miami for an NCAA title.

i don't want to pump too much sunshine up your skirt, but your work on these HS threads and continual updates throughout the playoff games has been outstanding. a tip of a big-ass floppy hat too you.
I really appreciate that, STP. I sometimes wonder if I'm pushing this on folks so it's nice to know people are keeping up with this stuff, too.

Would love to get some times on the games if anyone knows.

Mark has owned HSFB for the last 2 months. We're all spoiled by his efforts.

Looking forward to the Gilmer and WOS game.  I saw Gilmer in the playoffs and they were on another level.  Its hard to believe that they have 3 legit D1 kids at a school their size.  The Boyd brothers are a must get, in my opinion.  Baylor is getting a good one in Lynch.  He was all over the field and played several positions.

SirHornsAlot I hope the Cigar Chompers at Horn Sports are paying you a generous fee for threads like this.  You did a lot of data gathering and work to produce this - good stuff.

Some good matchups - I cannot wait to see some of these games the next 3 days.

Me thinks Allen wins and makes it a 3 peat, while Cedar Hill will take Katy.

Agree with you on Allen. But Katy seems to be on a mission. I don't know what happened with Cedar Hill the last three weeks of the regular season but if I were Katy, I'd be watching that film from dusk to dawn.
