What an emotional rollercoaster the Longhorns took us on this past weekend. We were up, we were down, we fought so incredibly hard, and ultimately, we fell short. Personally, I thought it was going to be blowout with OU crushing us, and I was not ready to face the hoards of OU fans walking around the fair. I was pleasantly surprised that the Longhorns made it an action-packed game.

That being said, the statistics show that we should have won that game. We should have defeated OU, and it should’ve been our first big victory on our road to reclaiming the great Texas football empire. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

The offense played at a more consistent level than in previous weeks, and showed improvement, but we still have trouble making the big plays that really matter. Touchdowns should’ve been made…penalties should’ve been avoided…regardless, Strong’s team showed the fans more promise than they have throughout the season.

One of the moments that stuck in my mind was after Texas was called for a late hit. I’m used to seeing the player being yelled at by the assistant coaches or the coordinators, but Strong let him know what he did wrong. I would not have wanted to be on the other end of that conversation. When the player attempted to walk away, Strong pulled him back and made sure that his voice was heard. I like that. I’m a huge supporter of a coach who is hands on, and Strong continues to show that trait play after play. If you do something he doesn’t like, he’ll tell you. College football needs more coaches like that.

The greatest disappointment during the game, in my very correct opinion, was the special teams. Geez Louise! For a team that has greatly excelled on defense and is turning their offense around, our special teams are pretty much the joke of the NCAA. The biggest deciding factor of our season is whether or not our special teams will improve.

All in all, I’m upset we didn’t win because we had the opportunity, but I’m extremely proud of the team that I saw on the field (except special teams, I’m really not that proud of them right now).

I’m excited for the game this weekend. Iowa State proved they’re no pushover in their games against ranked teams, so we’ll have a good game on our hands. A good chance for the students to rally around our team and let them know we still have faith in them. No ACL means more fans at the stadium and more students, showing their support for the Longhorns, including me. I can’t imagine spending my birthday weekend in a better way than screaming for (hopefully not at) my Longhorns.

I’ll be at the tailgates Saturday, pretending that it’s all just one giant birthday party for me.

Woo-hoo! Today is the day...join me in wishing our favorite student a Happy Birthday!

(Yes, that's a cake!)

Happy Bday.

She's prob out doing shots and celebrating right now, not that there's anything wrong with that.

For me, back in the day - I would be at The Black Cat Lounge eating free hot dogs and drinking dollar PBR's.  Or I would be at Nasty's drinking pitchers and shooting pool.

That's a bit old school these days I guess.
