If you listen to ESPN or as @Texas0250 calls it EsecPN, you would come across as believing he is he greatest QB in the history of the NCAA. This not including Tim Tebow which they have on a whole other pedestal.
When you look at JF numbers they are quite striking. He has played in 12 games and has thrown for 3419 yards, with 24 td's and 8 ints. Throw in another 1100 yards rushing and 19 rushing td's and you get a picture of a great year.
However when you look inside the numbers they tell a different story. His two worse games were against LSU and Florida. Against Florida he was 23-30 for 183 yards and 0 td's. He did run for an additional 60 yards but hardly outstanding numbers. EsecPN also ignores the LSU Game. In that game Johnny Football was a nightmare. He was 29-56 for 276 yards 0 td's and 3 ints. He has 17 rushes for 27 yards. Even the game that made him a star, Alabama, he was 24-31 for 253 yards and 2 td's. He ran 18 times for 92 yards. In this game I believe Bama was not ready to play. The week before they had a Keith Jackson Donny Brook with LSU and barely escaped with their win. ATM came out on fire and before the fans could get settled Agie was up 20-0 before finally winning on some costly Bama mistakes 29-24.
In Manziel's three biggest games, LSU, Florida and Alabama he was a combined 76-117 for 712 yards. In the three games combined he had more interceptions -3- than touchdowns -2-.
In fact of his 43 touchdowns, 22 came against South Carolina State, SMU, La Tech and Sam Houston St. Against all -8- teams he had 21.
Kevin Sumlin has reminded SEC purists that up-tempo, spread, aerial attacks work in big-boy leagues, too. But compare Manziel’s numbers to the ones that Case Keenum put up at Houston, and you start to notice that maybe Manziel isn’t all that trenscendent, but merely a whole lot of fun to watch as a scrambler.
I am relatively sure he will win the Heisman. He has the national media talking of him like his team is undefeated and playing for the national championship. Of course the reality is they are tied for 5th in the league behind Bama, Ga, LSU, and Florida. Next season the national media, led by EsedPN have put a huge bulls eye on this kids chest and life may not be as easy.
