PacNW Update:

Still ranked #1 in the state of Washington, Camas (6-0, 3-0) hosts their biggest rival, Union HS.

Union (4-2, 2-1) has had trouble with their defense this season, allowing 29 points or more in five of their six games.  Camas has held their opponents to under 14 points four times, with a 21 and 28 points in two big blowouts.

This one won't be close.  Camas will wrap up the 4A GSHL title with a win here, and I think they do so in a big way.  Even though this is a rivalry game, Camas wins by 4 TDs.

Minor update: Aus had his ACL surgery last Tuesday.  He has had 3 Physical Therapy sessions in the 9 days since.  Today he was able to bend his knee past 100 degrees.  The medical advancements absolutely astound me.  The PT said today that he's progressing a lot faster than most of his ACL patients.  So, good news.

And in other news, I smoked 140-pounds of pork shoulders for the HS Football dinner last night.  For those of you counting, that's 16 shoulders.  The boys ate well!  Pulled pork sammies for everyone!

Big game in the valley

Weslaco vs Edinburg North, Friday, 7:30 p.m. Cat Stadium
Thanks SHA! Go Panthers!

Game preview from The Monitor (newspaper):

DISTRICT 31-6A

RECORDS: Weslaco High (4-2, 2-0); Edinburg North (2-5, 1-2)

GAME NOTES: Weslaco High is coming off a Week 7 bye and a two-game win streak wherein they've defeated opponents by a combined score of 107-13. The Panthers' patented slot-T offense averages 323 rushing yards per game -- the best in the district. ... Weslaco's ground game is led in part by senior Brian Guerra, who leads the team with 466 rushing yards. Senior fullback Jonathan Martinez leads the team in rushing touchdowns with seven, in addition to 367 yards rushing. ... When these teams met a season ago, Weslaco came away with a 62-10 victory. ... While the bulk of the Panthers' offense comes by way of running the ball, Edinburg North has the most balanced offense in the district. ... The Cougars have gained 1043 rushing yards compared to 1116 through the air. ... All of North's passing yards have come from junior quarterback Cristian Espinoza, who has also thrown for 11 touchdowns. Though Espinoza has shown his pocket presence, he's been able to keep plays alive with his feet, rushing for 464 yards and three touchdowns. ...Despite North's ability to move the ball, their defense allows 330 yards per game and consistently gives up big plays.

PREDICTION: Weslaco High, 32-17
