Have you heard the latest aggy joke?

Obviously, I wrote this last week and the win/loss numbers are from before the Okie Lite game. One thing I wanted to do is get the documents on the server and available for people to see that the University was established in 1858. The reason the main campus didn't open its doors soon thereafter was the Civil War got in the way.

When the legislature established the University, they set aside $100,000 that was soon "borrowed" by the legislature to finance the war effort. Confederate debt was purchased with the cash. At the end of the Civil War, the endowment was worth $0.57. To replace the money, the legislature placed land in fund (PUF). Before the main campus opened its doors, the Texas & Pacific Railway turned back to the state 2 million acres of land it had been granted to build a railway. The railway deemed the land to worthless to even spend the money to survey. Half that land was added to the PUF, the other to the Permanent School Fund.

I researching this piece, I was trying to find out why the PUF was referred to in the singular. If there were two separate schools (UT and aggy) why one fund? Well, I found my answer. One university, one fund.

But this isn't a joke, it is a FACT.....

Good read, thanks for the reminder of the truth.
