I know this is an unpopular position but Saban is not going to come be the head coach at Texas.
My fear is that if we do go "all in" on Saban and he does not come where does that leave us as a fan base, as a program, and in the perception of public opinion? Will we be so disappointed that anyone else is a distant second place with a lot to prove? Will we have chased our number one target so blindly that we miss out on the opportunity of others? Will it show people that Texas is not THE premier coaching job and it doesn't matter how much money and/or resources you have, you can't just cherry pick anyone you want? Will it take some luster off of our brand if we swing and miss wildly here?
I don't have a source close to Saban or Patterson who has told me anything worth writing but if I were a betting man (other than craps and blackjack) I would put my money on Saban staying another 3-5 years in Tuscalusa and then riding off into the sunset.
My choice would be Mike Tomlin or Sean Payton (yeah I know). I'm not big on Briles due to some of the off the field things. Don't know much about Malzahn but he's certainly a sexy pick right now. Shaw seems alright but I'm not crazy about him for some reason.
I'll let the guys on the selection committee vet out the candidates and hopefully select someone who can coach up players, knows X's and O's, can recruit and motivate, and someone who can handle the added responsibility of the LHN.
Oh and can bring some F'ing hardware home!
