How long will it take CS and his staff to get Texas back to greatness. I feel CS had a good foundation to start with and he has a solid coaching staff. My friends y'all have a good week.

good to see you posting my friend. . .I'll go with 3 years. ..

Think we are in the conference title race each of the next two years . ..

I think he has a a good core at a few positions and others that are in desperate needs. Then you got the fact that he has to tear the Mackness out of these guys and build them up Strong.

I would say that in many ways we will see improvement in attitude and toughness fairly quick, but let's be honest there is a lot of work to do and in college you olny get so many hours with the kids who are also trying to keep up their grades and be young adults. Not like the NFL where you have a ton of time per player.

I agree that 3 years is a good number to get us back in the upper echelon of the sport. He will have some of his guys here by then and going for a few years.

Don't underestimate Strongs ability to get his players to overachieve. The current players are being broken down right now, and when the incoming class show up they will have a unit that already believes in themselves. That will make the incoming players want to be a part of that cohesion that much sooner. They will over acheive to gain the respect of the upperclassman. In two years the guys that decommitted from Texas will look back with envy.

Yep...3 years seems about right...to reach "greatness" level. I do think we will see much sooner our ability to win the battle in the trenches and start imposing our will more, just need to upgrade at a few skill positions to reach "greatness." If Heard lives up to expectations I think we are set there in a couple of years...will need to re-load at RB soon and an upgrade in receiver and tight-end talent (what is a tight-end again??). I think the defense will show improvement very quickly. It already did under Robinson. But, as stated, attitude, conditioning, discipline and a nasty streak may be evident immediately.

As soon as I heard Charlie Strong was going to take over the program, I thought of this picture. Its as if you can just feel some people who have been just sailing along are about to run into one hell of storm.

Does the storm represent Strong and the ship represents the program complacency or does the ship represent the program with Strong just sliding into the captains chair?

Guess that is the 5 million dollar question.

That's the great thing about the picture. Is it Bellmont and the change Patterson is about to bring? Is it Strong about to put some players into something they had no idea was coming? Is it the future of the program itself, having to deal with an uncertain future? I grew up sailing, so my attitude may be different that of others. When I see this, all I think of is "I'm about to be tested and there is no changing the situation. Bring it!" I'd then do what I could and sail right into it. Let's hope some other people have a similar attitude, because a lot of people are into some rough sailing before they see the clouds part and the sun shine again.

By the third year we should be in a BCS Bowl or in the final 4.

So much depends on QB development, but if Heard is as good as advertised, then I'd expect by 2016 we are rolling.

That said, if Ash stays healthy, this year and/or next we could surprise a few folks.

I believe that Coach Strong and his position coaches will surprise the college football world.....no more than 2 years to be on top.

Time will tell just what Coach Strong can accomplish. I'm optimistic, but my gut instinct tells me the offense is going to be a work in progress until 2015. I'm just looking forward to a change in direction. It wasn't that we lost 4 games last season as much as how we lost. BYU was an abomination, the Ole Miss game was lost simply because we made ZERO adjustments at halftime, against Okie Lite we got dominated in all three phases of the game and against Baylor, our offense threw the game away (figuratively and literally). We lost ugly and I'm sick and tired of that. Mack was consistently out coached and the players simply weren't put in a position to win if they simply followed their coaching.

As long as we play well, show improvement and are entertaining to watch, I will be thrilled with next season.

It varies with each program, but 2 or 3 yrs should be enough time to implement the program and get us comepting for conference championships and for the playoff system.

I'm a big fan of being outdoors and nearly everything associated with it. However, I would never venture into the ocean with only the power of wind and my ability to harness it without turning over, as my only hope of getting back. I certainly have respect for those that do though.

It seems like Charlie Strong and staff have worked harder in the last 2 weeks than the previous staff worked in 6 months.

Charlie may surprise us all. If not, it won't be from lack of effort.

I'm guessing that photo is cropped so you can't see that they are hauling ass back into port.

I have sailed from the west coast to Hawaii a number of times and across the Atlantic twice. With long range satellite forecasts and on-board radar, there is no reason to get stuck in heavy weather you aren't prepared for. West coast to Hawaii is a blast if you get the right group. My favorite is when a group of us too a vacation together. The girls flew out and partied for a few days while the guys all sailed out. Once we got there, everyone partied for a few more days. We paid a college kid to bring the boat back and we all flew home.

Two years. Clemson, Oregon, UCF rounded out the top 10 this year. With good QB play, Texas beats all 3 of those teams.

I'll say 2 years. We could have a legitimate shot at B12 and the playoff in 2015 if we can get our $#!^ together at QB.

I think 3 years will probably mark the end of CS's goodwill, if he hasn't done something that looks like "greatness" by the end of 2016 everyone will start circling the wagons again.
