Mack Brown made two HUGE mistakes that took him down. First mistake was abandoning the offense dependent upon a strong dual-thread QB. Second, hiring Manny Diaz (and not firing him).
All the talk about complacency and softness and "Mack did this" and "Mack did that" is just total bull sh**. If Mack had put a great dual threat QB on this Texas team 3 years ago and never hired Manny, he'd still have a job today. The extent of Mack's failures have been grossly exaggerated. Charlie Strong has a well furnished cupboard...with the exception of that big QB question.
I don't expect greatness until we get a QB ready to carry this team on his back when the need arises. Assuming David Ash is going to be a strict drop back passer, with VERY little threat to tuck and run, he's not going to be that guy...no matter what Jordan Shipley says. Since it's probably going to be about 3 years before we can get our QB problem fully solved, I suppose I agree with posters that say 3 years, but perhaps for a different reason.
