So I'm watching the Travel Channel right now and it's highlighting BBQ joints across America and the first one that they showed is Gatlins BBQ in Houston. The food looks pretty good, specifically the Brisket sandwich.

Anyone have any experience at this place? Any good?

What are some other good BBQ places in Houston?

Best you've ever eaten?

Gatlins is some of the best BBQ you will find (especially the ribs).

Make sure you talk to the owner, Greg Gatlin. Real cool guy. Greg played football at Rice and has some pretty cool football stories. He was actually offered by Texas and several other big time programs. I'm not sure what he's doing these days, but last time I talked with him he was thinking about moving to Austin.

For those in Austin, I recommend checking out Terry Black's BBQ on Barton Springs Road. Terry is the grandson of the guy who started Black's in Lockhart. I like Terry's better. It's the closest to Franklin in Austin IMO.

Terry is a friend of mine, too. I live in Lockhart, by the way, so I am pretty hard to impress when it comes to bbq joints. Never heard of Gatlins, but I will try them out if I find myself nearby one of these days.

I've eaten at Black's in Lockhart, but never at Franklin's or Gatlin's. Which one is the best, iyo??

Ella, in the Heights?

Franklin is the best I have ever had for brisket, although Terry Black's isn't far behind. Think melt in your mouth.

Back when I lived down in Pearland, I used to go there. It was one of the few BBQ places I liked in the Houston area.

It's back open as of today

The City Permitting Office has become a nightmare (thanks Mayor Parker) which caused many delays, but BBQ excellence finally won in the end.

I've never tried Gatlins, but the one that I have tried is Killens in Pearland.  Best briskett that I have ever had.
