This game reminded me of the 1965 season. There was a lot of talent and high expectations. Tommy Nobis was selected as the top pick in the NFL draft. The only linebacker to be chosen number with number pick. There was Diron Talbert. Later became all-pro in the NFL for 3 years and a member of the Washington Redskins Super Bowl champions. Pete Lammons was a member of the Joe Namath and New York Jets Super Bowl victory, along with safety Jim Hudson and WR George Sauer.
Texas beat Oklahoma 19-9. That moved Texas to #1 in the nation. They went into Arkansas. Texas had a lead of 24-20. Let a lead get away and lost 27-24 (that score, hmmm). The following week lost to an unrated Rice, 20-17, while leading 17-7 in the 3rd quarter. I was there. It was sickening. Lost the following week. Last game of the year was behind aggy 17-0 at halftime. Aggy had won 1 or two games that year. Pulled the game out to win, 21-17. The season ended at 6-4 after high expectations and ranked #1. That team was talented, but inconsistent. They had penalties and turnovers at the worst time. Did I say this team reminds me of the 1965 team?
