*****Game Thread - Texas vs. Maryland*****

Daniel, it seems like you are still reasonable. Who was leaving the middle of our defense open?  Who was missing their assignment?  Was it fixed when they put Roach in?  Hager?

You know heads are going to roll this week, let's all see how this all plays out going forward.

I agree Daniel on your point about Shane's stats. They were good, but to not mention his flaws is a disservice. With our lack of run game I think Sam should have come in to give us a change of pace. There was a lot of bad play today and I will lump Shane in that group. The only stat that counts is winning vs losing

"The defense is built to stop the run, if we do our job."  Tom Herman, post game presser

Wow, you could have fooled me.

If he hasn't beaten Shane in practice what makes you all think he's ready?

Football is the ultimate team sport, not one player can carry a team and right now the whole team is not up to par.

Question, what position did Roach play last year?  He looked to be a dynamic star!  It looks like he is now playing with a hand on the ground and wrestling with the OT... neutralizing what he did spectacularly (at times) last year.

I'm still trying to figure out moving Hager to the middle and sitting him on the bench.  Add Warren III playing back up and carrying the ball less than Buchelle to the befuddle list.

I don't believe Sam should start, I do believe him coming into the game today might have helped our running game. I think Sam should have had 2/3 series depending on how he played.

Ryan is going to have a full game breakdown eventually, but to the naked eye it just looked like same old BS with poor recognition and gap integrity from the front 7. I'm struggling to find anything nice to say about that defensive performance.

I'm not saying he was perfect because he wasn't. I said that in my original post. The run game wasn't there because the team is deficient at RB and the OL was not consistently establishing a new line of scrimmage. Sam coming in to run the football ain't fixing that issue.

Maryland was able to sit back in coverage more because they got pressure with as few as 3 rushers at times and Shane still almost threw for 400 yards. Sam may make more off schedule plays with his feet than Shane, but that and turning him into the de facto running back is not going to solve the offensive issues. Especially when you only have two scholarship QBs to speak of.

Texas never established the run.

Under 100yds running when you averaged 250+ last year with same O-Line from last year WTF is that?

Shane never should have thrown 50+ times.

Orlando's defense gave up more yards than Strong.

However, I'm still optimistic that Herman can fix it.

Texas doesn't have a feature back to cover up deficiencies and the OL had a lackluster day  at the office. Recipe for disaster.
I was watching LHN and even Ricky and staff said that Texas didn't even really try to run the ball.

I get that O-Line sucked but your QB had as many rushing yards as you starting RB.

I'm not off the boat but they definitely have to look at game plan and adjust accordingly.

I'll never, ever understand why a "spread" team can't line up in a Power-I for short yardage and/or goal line plays.

It shouldn't be that complicated, but I'm not a Mensa member. Hell, at least line up Humphrey or Heard at QB for more Wildcat action.
