*****GAME THREAD - TCU @ #9 Texas*****

I’m going to ask a hypothetical question. If we were to change coaches.......and I’m not saying we should........WHO WOULD YOU HIRE IF YOU WERE IN CDC’S SHOES. Alot of the top top guys you can’t get so I’d like to know who would you hire?
If you can stomach him 1) Urban Meyer

2) Joe Brady

I am saying we should.

1.  Urban Meyer if winning is the priority.
2. Mike Leach - keep Austin weird.
3. Dan Mullin - just because.
4. Gus Malzahn - we have no problem taking Auburn coaches.
5. Jo Brady - backup plan.

1. I'm not sure he would come here. But he would be set up in the center of the recruiting universe.

2. Doubt he would come. He just got an SEC gig.

3. See #2 reason

4. Gus might not come because he sees what happens to coaches here.

5. IMO, he would take this job.

I just think most all of these teams in our conference we should be beating by at least a couple of touchdowns with the exception of Oklahoma. We’ve recruited 3-3-8 the last 3 years
Agree experts say Horns have the talent so must be coaching. No top ten class this year.

Said UT is back.  University of Tennessee that is.  Texas is a pretender.

With what has happened at Texas the past decade I'm not sure Texas can get a big name coach. Yes, the resources and new addition at the stadium look good. Look at the cluster you-know-what with Saban (divisiveness between boosters and admin). Not a good look. Every game Mack Brown wins makes Texas look silly from afar. We out dealed LSU for Herman. I'm not sure Texas can get a big name coach. The AD is going to have to work his magic.

I think you could get Urban Meyer if you’re able to move quicker than USC. Urban has to know he could recruit the state better than Herman has & better than Jimbo could ever. He would just have to deal with the Sabans of the world. Having the luxury of being able to recruit you state mainly to get what you need is a good selling point. We also can pay him a lot of money if he wants to come. But the most underrated thing I believe is you have to think Urban Meyer would love, absolutely love, taking over for Herman. He would smile knowing he was taking his job. I would also wager be would love to show that he could do what Herman could not do. I think he would take the job if offered.

I am looking forward to Aaron's report card on today's performance

I know everyone is pissed and wants Herman's head on a stick , but there is lots of blame to be spread all around the place....

This team got distracted  by all the off the field antics and the fuss about athletes opting out, not wanting to sing , and players quitting in the middle of a game....THOSE are NOT the trademarks of a National Championship team. They dont tackle as a team , they make stupid mistakes including penalties, they dont seem to play for each other...RB by committee isn't the answer, never has been except in the wishbone days...This team seems to lack a defensive leader, a linebacker stud that is in on every play, the gap they left on the QB draw up the middle was such a blown defensive formation I could see it from home

Herman is not the problem....he may not be the answer but he certainly isn't the problem, the winning culture isn't quite there yet

Urban Meyer is not coming! There is a cancer in Austin, doesn't seem to matter who is coaching there. its going to take a special coach, needs to be someone tough on the kids and very demanding. I don't see that in Herman. Saban is demanding of his kids, thats a known fact, who else? Patterson is pretty demanding, i see him get in some ass on the sidelines. I swear, all we hire are coaches that look like they just walked off the golf course. Meyer is demanding too, ive seen it, my gut tells me hes not interested in rebuilding another program he has not connection too. Hes already coached at his dream school ...... and left it, hes won several national championships, why come here? he doesn't need the money.

Urban used to be very critical of Texas, but now he is not incredibly vocal, but quietly complimentary of the players.

Just the right tone.

One of our studs was taken out just before that, and I missed it. Who was it?  Shoulder I think.

Adeoye?

I honestly don't know that its the coach as much as it may be factors inside the University. Herman whooped everyone at Houston, OU, Florida st. when they were good. Only lost when the QB went down with injury. Is there some input from the powers that be inside the University that may handicap the coach from being 100% himself? it just seems like there is a cancer in Austin, i mean how much greater talent do we need to win a conference?

You sure are speaking in absolutes about a hypothetical question. Then you switch to talking about your gut. Well my gut tells me Meyer would come here. Why? Ask someone with money how much is enough..  Also as I said the guy hates Herman and would love to show him up. But more than anything. Some people like the challenge. He didn’t “leave” as much as he did his classic move and he retired before he could be hit with a suspension or get fired. There is a cancer in Austin?? You’re talking like an aggy. There has been 2 coaches since the coach who won a national championship & coached for another left. That 2010 title game was more recent than ou has seen. More recent than Michigan. More recent than Florida, by a year but still. Point is that your comment about a “cancer” in Texas is off. Same with your you need someone tough on kids. Mack isn’t some disciplinarian. I don’t see Dabo on the sidelines screaming at players. Those guys recruited well and developed talent. And they had well coached teams. You don’t have to have a “special” coach to win at Texas. Just like you don’t need a special coach to win at LSU. Unless you think Coach O is a special coach. With those schools, along with Florida and SC, you are in fertile recruiting grounds. All you have to do is be a good coach who can actually develop your players. Do that and you’re gonna get a Tommy Brockermeyer. You will get JK Dobbins to stay home. You get Chiasson. You get Walker Little. Maybe you can get Waddle to stay. This state produces so much talent. It’s embarrassing Herman squanders it so much with the lack of player development. Okafor is what a 5th year player and still making so many mistakes. The line hasn’t progressed much in general. The CB’s still don’t get their head around. There are too many mistakes happening. A good coach can actually COACH. With that you don’t have as much wasted talent. And that would mean a floor of 8-9 wins a year. Instead our floor is 6-7 wins a year. That’s the problem with Herman I have. It’s not that he’s not winning championships every year. It’s that his lows are scary low. And the high is 9 wins. That’s not good.
