The Texas Longhorns return to Austin for their home opener against the San Jose State Spartans, looking to rebound from a tough 14-7 loss to defending national champion Ohio State. Quarterback Arch Manning struggled in his first start as the full-time starter, throwing for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while the Longhorns’ defense held strong but couldn’t overcome offensive miscues.

San Jose State also enters the matchup 0-1 after a narrow 16-14 defeat to Central Michigan.

Historically, this is only the second meeting between the two programs. The first came in 2017, when Texas dominated San Jose State 56-0 in Austin. That game marked the first career start for then-freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger and featured a breakout performance from running back Chris Warren III.

While Texas boasts a storied football tradition with four national championships and over 960 wins, San Jose State has had more modest success, with 13 bowl appearances and one win over a Power Five opponent in the last five years.

For Texas, the focus will be on offensive rhythm and confidence. Manning must bounce back and take command early, while the Longhorns’ defense—ranked among the nation’s best—should aim to pressure Eget and contain Danny Scudero. San Jose State, on the other hand, must protect the football after committing three turnovers last week and find ways to exploit Texas’ secondary with their passing attack. If the Spartans can keep it close early and force Texas into mistakes, they could make this more competitive than expected. But with Texas favored by over five touchdowns, it will be a tall task for San Jose State to leave DKR with an upset win.

Very undisciplined. Two penalties in first few minutes: one big penalty and one STUPID penalty.

SJSU is using a variety of routes for Scudero and it's going to bite us at some point

Manning still not looking good, defense not playing as well. Simmons had some bad penalties Wonder this not alot closer without their missed opportunities and TO.
