Some rumors out there (Chip & IT) that Baylor will start giving releases by this weekend.
it's certainly past time for that. have to hope for all concerned that the releases happen soon.
basically, i see this as an IQ test for baylor decision-makers, and they aren't scoring very well at all to this point. on baylor boards i see people calling to release the players who feel cheated and don't want to be there, but i also see people saying the players should have no choice after faxing (or their hs coaches faxing) NLIs to baylor.
me, if i'm a head coach and somebody asks me if i want a half dozen or more people around all the time, resenting being there, and listening to preparations and noting which players don't do well in what situations, i think i can say my answer is a resounding no. i cannot imagine the coaching staff there not seeing it that way. so i think it's got to be obvious that baylor isn't actually trying to force the players' and their families' hands on this.
so why do it? why punish the players? what did they do to deserve maltreatment? potential resentments in those families and possibly the hs coaching staffs who prepared them for the next level can't be the baylor goal.
my guess is that they want to stretch this out as long as possible to try to win back as many as they can while simultaneously making it as difficult as possible for the players and their eventual teams to salvage this season. then tell the players and their families that the only way they can have a good first year is to go there. this is nuts. absolutely nuts. baylor thinks rape is the way to go about any dealings with other people.
