SignUp Now!You ever looked at Akers winning %?as far as replacement goes Saban will name him successor and unlike DKR will get that wish honored so they dont get a Fred Akers
That is the thing though. Whatever he gets paid is on top of his buyout, there is no offset.Jimbo can earn more sitting on his couch than he would taking another job, IMO. Nobody would pay him what aggy is paying him.
of course and who else could blow a National Championship like FredYou ever looked at Akers winning %?

Typical buy outs at major schools is more like 50 million at this point. Not many people are putting 100 million handcuffs on themselves outside of aggy. Kirby Smart has the highest right now at 92 million. Makes sense given his recent success and the fact that he has job security in spades right now. UGA would have to fall off the map for 3 years in a row and by then the buy out would be much lower.
The other thing aggy did was not include an offset if Jimbo takes a new job. Many of these coaches buy outs end up being much less when they get hired on elsewhere.
Sark has earned himself a nice raise and some more years on his contract. I also feel pretty confident CDC won't be signing off on any deal similar to Jimbos

The buyouts for coaches at the top of college football are generous, totaling tens of millions
Texas A&M fired football coach Jimbo Fisher, deciding that it was fine with paying him more than $75 million.apnews.com
In fairness to Akers, I know someone who played on that team and he stated that Akers told them to stay away from the punt.of course and who else could blow a National Championship like Fred
Sounds like Mel Tucker had about a 70 million dollar buy out. Since USC is private, the buyout isn't known for sure so that's probably why it wasn't included in the link I posted. 80-90 million is the estimate though.I read that Riley's buyout at USC is 80-90 million. Also Mel Tucker had a huge buyout at Michigan State before being fired for cause. It would be interesting to get figures of buyouts for coaches at major schools.
I agree that a deal with a huge buyout is a bad idea for the University. I can understand the temptation for a school that is a traditional stepping stone, wanting to lock in a successful coach to a long term deal, but IMHO it's a bad idea. For a destination school like Texas there is no need, as you say just keep paying and extending with success. When things eventually one day go south then you are not stuck in a bad long term position. If a coach is confident in their ability and has a long run , then this approach also works out well for the coach.
personally still held a grudge even when Coach Akers passed awayThat game still hurts.
About the dumbest take I ever readof course and who else could blow a National Championship like Fred
Jimbo take another job??? Seriously... Who would hire him?
I never blamed Coach Akers for that one. I don't think you could have found a better coach to follow a legend like DKR.personally still held a grudge even when Coach Akers passed away
