They say the first step in recovery is recognizing you have a problem. Seems Texas has at least gotten to step one.

I give Mack credit for this. It took a while but he now knows Tweedledee and Tweedledum are not the answer. I think they convinced themselves, in the off season, that David Ash had turned the corner and was ready to lead this team. It was backed up by a good spring and he really looked good in those early games this season. That now appears to not be the case as it is obvious that Ash can't handle the pressure. He was pathetic against OU and his game seemed to suffer from there on. Against Kansas he again looked nervous and Case came in to turn a really ugly loss into a really ugly win.

I don't think they for a second Mack or Harsin want to hang their hopes on Case McCoy. He is a disaster waiting to happen and the guy is about to be a senior? Those two interceptions, on out passes, were about all this Case guy needed to bail on that thought.

David Ash and Case Mccoy, playing against TCU and KSU, combined for 2 TD's, 5 ints, a 7.2 yard per attempt and more importantly went 0-2. I think even Mack who usually spews happy talk had to admit it's time to get a QB. I think that was the moment that Mack and Harsin decided it was time for the OC to go to play B. Find a QB that can play next season.

Brian Harsin is a busy guy these days working on exactly that. He is on the trail of three JUCO QB's. One 6'5 guy who can run, one duel threat QB who threw a lot of interceptions and is a converted DB who has only played on season as a QB and the third who threw 31 TD's with only 3 picks.

Mack is running out of time and the one positive thing is he seems to know it. The team is also recruiting an OLB, DE and an OLman or two. Busy/desperate times for a coaching staff that prior to last season had recruited only four JUCO guys in 14 years of Mack Brown. One of the priorities, going by the talk on LHN, is he has to enroll early and have those 15 spring practices if there is any chance of him playing next season.

Mack is not idiot. He got a vote of confidence from President Powers Friday but he knows one more season of Ash and McCoy and it may be his last. Who knows, he may have already been told this exact thing? Either way Mack appears ready to turn the page on these two QB's.

Now all he has to do is find another DC.

You are absolutely right but I am not so sure Texas will land either JUCO qb they are looking for...... Inherently JUCO qb's are playing at JUCOs because they didn't make a D-I school out of high school. Again this leads us back to the talent evaluation piece and worthwhile scouting. I mentioned it in another post but a JUCO qb is a band-aid to a larger problem. It may buy Mack a year or two but it comes back full-circle and we are left with talented guys that were recruited to play qb who never got a shot and instead decided to transfer for playing time at another school.

We start a JUCO qb next season Mack better make damn sure he weaves Overstreet, Brewer into the mix too.

Or..they don't think Brewer or Overstreet are the real deal? JUCO QB's are there for a lot of reasons and not all because they could make a Div I roster.

Jake Waters is a QB that wasn't offered by any school but he was from a small school in Iowa. Waters threw for more than 3,500 yards by completing a ridiculous 73% of his passes, resulting in 39 touchdowns and only three interceptions, a .9% interception rate. that would rank among the elite of the elite in the FBS. With these type of numbers it is hard to overlook.

Nick Marshall is 6-2, 215-pound Marshall (different services list him between 185 and 215 pounds) received conference player of the year honors after throwing for over 2,800 yards and rushing for 949 more. Rated as a three-star prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings, Marshall spent a year at Georgia, where he recorded five tackles in 13 games at cornerback before being dismissed from the team last February for an undisclosed violation of team rules. The problem with Nick is he can't enroll for the Spring and that may be a non starter but he would have 3 years of eligibility.

Tanner McElroy is 6'5 and played at South Carolina before transferring to a JUCO. He is the first one Harsin vistited with and they seemed to hit it off.

All three of these guys are listed a 4 star recruits and from what I read there are even more on the horizon.
