hmmm...the presidents of the pac 12 fire off letters to their counterparts in other big-boy conferences urging change. bowlsby has a presser at the big 12 meetings urging change. now this little nugget.

Sigh!

Here are the two things that must occur in order for realignment to take place:

1. Currant contracts must be annulled or redefined.

A. This means the networks have to pony up more money.

b. This ain't gonna happen if there is less money for the networks.

c. If conferences realign anyway - expect a plethoria of lawsuits.

2. Schools will not realign if the networks say no.

A. If the money pie is split even more - forget it.

B. If conferences attempt to realign anyway - See - 1., A., c.
The networks first have to get through the Aereo decision the Supreme Court is going to pass down in a matter of days. If the technology is allowed, the networks are going to beg to get out of existing contracts. Aereo not only would kill local affiliate broadcasting but also bundling of channels.

The existing litigation is going to change the structure of college sports. Technology will change the economics. Don't expect any players to demand the status quo be maintained.

It's simple, abandon the NCAA and form a four league/16 team organization with two divisions in each.  Networks will love it as they won't be required to show all the second tier programming that exists in the second half of major conferences.

There are a defined number of time slots for the networks to broadcast college football. If the networks have enough games to fill those slots, they don't care what the conference structure is. In an unbundled world, the economics of conference networks gets shot to pieces as content of any such networks has to be of a high enough quality to draw actual subscribers. Schools will align along economic lines instead of along geographic lines. Ten years from now, I don't expect college football to be much like the game it is today.

i have no doubt you're right.

some times i wish all that mattered was beating ou and winning the SWC for a Cotton Bowl berth.

time marches on i suppose.

I hate aggy as much as anyone but I find the continued coverage of the Stansbury issue to be inappropiate & borderline slander

Truth is an absolute defense for any charge of libel or slander. It's a bold statement that has been made, but if it's true, how is reporting the matter wrong in any way? I asked if he stood by what he had offered and he said absolutely yes. He thinks he has a story and if he has done his research, he has every right to go with it.

The biggest is saying the young man keeps taking money from boosters. If you have proof show it, if not well probably not best to rumor monger.

it does seem a little national enquirer-esque. i also suspect if a UT player were coming under such scrutiny without a charge being levied, most of us would be pissed.
It is no secret that Hyman is allowing Sumlin to run a very loose program over there. The number of arrests is one thing, but multiple drug arrests by multiple individuals who were busted stacking alcohol, weed and prescription meds indicates discipline is clearly a secondary consideration to on field performance. There is no way there aren't failed drug tests that we haven't heard about yet that are being ignored by the coaches. If the Stansbury accusations have merit, the ags absolutely deserve to be called out for what could only be called a lack of institutional control. If people were making accusations of this sort against individuals associated with our program I would be screaming for an investigation. I know the ags believe they alone should be allowed to manage every aspect of their university, but we are talking about state employees. The things going over there are on the verge of becoming very serious and if the Stansbury accusations are found to have merit, there needs to be an outside investigation into what is going on over there.

Where is he saying Stansbury is taking money from boosters?
Evidently Stansburry has fired his initial attorney Allena Wright and found a large cache of money in his sofa and hired a very good defense attorney.

I think it's pretty clear what is being said here.

lot of supposition here. IF you're right i agree on all counts.

and i'm sorry, if an internet guy (no offense McPhaul) was making similar accusations against UT i'd say show me something or shut the hell up. I wouldn't be asking UT for an investigation.

Now I WOULD ask UT if they're aware of the accusations and would like to hear the answer. I do not know if that has been asked of aggy official and i think that's fair game.

That is a far stretch from saying he is taking money from boosters. Subtly raising the question of where the money came from, but none of us believe Stansbury wrote what probably was a $35,000 retainer check from his own funds. Heck, none of us believe he paid for the hotel room that night out of his own pocket.

The accusations of aggys taking money from boosters have been explicitly levied against RSJ, among others. No one had to accuse Stansbury of taking money from boosters to pay for his legal bills. Most of us already assumed he did.

I was going to save this for nexts weeks Crossfire but, I have been encouraged to post more often.

Several Updates:

Rice vs. A&M Assault Case

Evidently Stansburry has fired his initial attorney Allena Wright and found a large cache of money in his sofa and hired a very good defense attorney.  The Harris County DA's office is building a case to prosecute to the fullest.  Keep in mind, the DA's office is not just going to press charges on the assault but, the attempted rape/sexual assault.  I was told that  sometimes it takes up to six months to put a case like this together.

NCAA Realignment:

I was told that we are not worried about scheduling  A&M because someone very high up at our University believes that there will be a conference realignment within in two years and they will most likely be in our pod .
my comps been on the blink and I must have missed something.  What is going on with Rice vs. A&M?

Supposedly aggy is wanting Rice to keep them aware of their investigation and is asking Rice to let an aggy rep be involved in how Rice is handling the matter. Rice is supposedly refusing, aggy is allegedly trying to exert pressure on Rice officials to grant them the considerations they are asking for and there is supposedly some friction between the administrations of the two schools.

Don't forget the feds opened an investigation into how a number of universities are handling rapes on their campuses. Rice seems rightfully concerned about the feds looking into all this.

This^^^^^^

And I happen to have sources very connected to the situation.

Everything I have stated is the truth.

sorry duke. it's neither a far stretch or subtle. i think it's exactly what McP was implying. he's welcome to join in and say he's reporting he REALLY found it in a couch.

to the larger point...there's a not-so-subtle accusation of sexual assault that evidently only hornsports is covering. something's missing.
