Texas takes on Texas Tech Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. CT. The good news for Texas is that this game is at 11:00. The bad news is that it's on the road. Charlie Strong and his team are 0-4 on the road thus far this season. If he wants to keep his job, he must secure a win on Saturday.

Texas Tech currently ranks 103rd in the nation in rush defense. Texas' own D'onta Foreman is the nation's 4th best rusher, with 1,105 rushing yards through 7 games (he missed UTEP). However, Texas is dealing with the best passer in the country. As a comparison, the Texas defense is 92nd in the country against the pass. Texas Tech is 116th. So, what does this mean? It means that the Texas defense is bad, but Tech's is worse. A shootout could be likely in this game, unless Texas makes the proper adjustments that they have yet to do this season.

The biggest adjustment Texas has to make is on defense. This unit has killed themselves by letting the opposing QB move outside of the pocket and create plays with their feet. That cannot happen on Saturday. If I'm Charlie Strong, I'm watching the TCU defensive tape all week. Gary Patterson came up with a way to contain Patrick Mahomes for the first time this season, holding the Red Raiders to 27 total points through 2 OT. Ultimately, the Texas defense must continue its 'bend don't break' mentality. Texas Tech has threats all over the offense. However, outside of Mahomes, they do not have a proficient running back. That helps Texas. This means Texas can focus on containing Mahomes more than against other teams like Baylor. Will they be able to stop him? That's a different story that will have to wait until Saturday to play out.

What's on your mind? How do you feel about Saturday. Fire away!

Does Hager make the hit that puts Mahomes out of the game or will it be someone else?
Make no mistake, Tech will be going after Hager from the get go. He has to be careful. I don't know if anyone will make that big of a hit on Mahomes, simply because you have to contain him to do so. Not sure if this defense can do that. I hope they can.

Might not be able to get pressure due to quick release.

Our pass defense is horrible, like drop everyone into coverage and still get lit up.

Hopefully we can disrupt their qb

I expect to see more of this Saturday

Unrelated to game, but what is Hornsports hearing about the following RB recruits:

J.K. Dobbins

Eno Benjamin
I personally haven't heard too much. I don't see Texas offering Benjamin in the future unless it's our of desperation. He did just decommit from Iowa. I can still see Dobbins af Texas. However, Ohio State is a hard school to pass up. I'm sure Mike knows more

The problem is when Mahomes runs around, coverages will eventually get blown. Lots of his yards come outside of the pocket

That if you can get to Mahomes in time with Tech's quick passing attack. Not to mention he can run. Texas is 3rd in the nation in sacks so the Longhorns are good at something on defense. Tech is a different type of spread team from Baylor. The Secondary will have to show up in this game and slow the offense down.
