Friday-Saturday

I am starting to get a feeling that Patterson has gone rogue on this. It will be Strong.. Just a hunch
If Bohls tweets are to be believed it sure seems like Strong is a strong candidate (no pun intended).

Ketch also posted the search firm recommended to Patterson to hire Strong.

Just sharing the information and it is too hard to draw any conclusions from all the different reports.

One last thought before I go stand in line to exchange some gifts . . . . Patterson could conceivably submarine my whole line of thinking with regards to the Saturday deadline I feel exists. He could gain an acceptance from Saban, choose to sit on the information until after the MNC game - the next morning conducting the announcement.

I could see Patterson not wanting to make a big splash in the championship game atmosphere. I could see him fearing some blowback on that. Saban could ride right through the broadcast like normal.

It would avoid some complicated things, is my thinking. I might be overthinking this, however.

Hope you're right, Growler. Will be fun (or at least some intense emotion) to see how this plays out :D

Oh no, you can't wiggle out of this. You said by the end of this weekend. I'm holding you to it. :) Besides, Patterson could do the same with Briles.

You are picking Harbaugh for your back up plan. I like him, but I am going with Strong.

I think if you look at this whole thing as if you were Patterson, your ideas sorta changes. If I were him, I would want a splash hire, if I could, but I would also want a coach that would have a chance to immediately start winning. Out of all of the candidates, who could do that? Including Saban I think there is only one man that would fill that bill and that would be Briles.

Naturally, this is only the opinion of one incredibly brilliant, sensitive, caring, insightful and rather handsome man - me.

If we don't have Saban by end of day Saturday, then I will no longer think it's Saban. Saban will have said no.
And if it's not Saban, I think it will be Harbaugh.

And there's a faction that seem to like Briles. They could surge and make their guy the third choice and replace Strong, IMO. Briles does seem to be gaining chatter, but I've heard the Briles side is not so receptive. I'm not real tuned in on the Briles stuff, I'll admit.

Yes, it's fun, but I admit I'll be glad when it's over.

But then, we'll just be in a storm over who the OC and DCs will be.
Heck, we'll be in a storm regardless. No matter who is chosen there will be those who will predict the sky is falling. Any and all of the names that have been mentioned as potential HC (even Mora and Franklin) would run circles around Mack Brown.

I've heard nothing new, this is what I've heard for the last several days. He has a formal offer right now.
Aidensdad also says Saban has an offer.

Reliable insider from what I've seen from him so far and what I've read

aidensdad is legit. No question.

I'm not too worried about Saban working the title game broadcast. Remember when he was on Gameday for the conference title games and had 2 segments for ESPN to ask him about the rumors and they never did. Not a single question. If he doesn't want to be asked certain things, they won't be asked. Easy as that. He could take the Texas job on the air and if he tells ESPN he doesn't want to take questions about it they won't do it.

This sounds reasonable to me. He might take one or two soft-ball questions but I doubt he would agree to be grilled.

That is not going rogue. KEtch says Strong is who the committee recommends. We need a unifying hire, and I don't think it's Strong. If Patterson is as smart as we think he is, he won't cross the big money that hired him.

If Saban is announced right before the title game, it's gold for UT. The commentators will spend half the game mentioning Nick as the new HC and congratulating him on the move, and every recruit in the nation will be listening. And they won't dare ask him anything overly personal or contentious because they'd be afraid of tanking the broadcast if they piss him off. Would be prime advertising.

Ketch clarified that the search firm they hired were the ones who recommended Strong.

Also, Saban doing the title game should be fascinating. Unlike most commentators, he'll actually be able to break down the X's and O's for the audience. Instead of just screaming "What a run to the outside. He's so fast!" or "Hell of a hard tackle by the LB!" He also has unique insight into Malzahn's offensive philosophy since he spent a week breaking down film on him.

Not trying to be a knot head, but the "committee" won't be the ones making a recommendation. They likely helped form some of the hire criteria but they won't sit around a table and say this is our guy. Even Powers said as much.

He's not calling the game. He's only going to be on the set with Kirk and the guys pregame for a while

Have to disagree. There would be no bigger national spotlight than the MNC game to answer a few questions for the "new coach". He knows the drill. ;)

If I'm Patterson, that's a perfect venue to re-launch the new regime. And the new guy could even upstage a former neighbring rival just a bit.

My experience is the search firms don't recommend a certain person but vet candidates and recommend a pool. Now, if asked, they may give their opinion, but that is unlikely.

Now you know that ant rite. He is 2 Big (did I say that right). Now tell us boys the truth.

What BIGGER hire could you possibly want? LOL
