Friday Night Lights – Playoffs Rd 1

I would hope that one day soon the UIL will consider shrinking the playoff field, maybe reduce the playoffs by a round.

The number of complete blow outs in the scores above is evidence that we're just not helping anything by putting half a district into the playoffs. These are just not interesting games in this first round and it hurts the product as a result, IMO.
Yeah I’m with you there. Almost everyone makes the playoffs these days and it waters things down a bit.

Agreed. I'm glad our school made the playoffs, but they were 1-3 in district. They get the pleasure  of playing Waco La Vega tomorrow night. It shouldn't take long for that game to get out of hand.

The UIL needs to stop it with the five school districts. This is a by product of the Div I and II format, IMO. I heard Craig Way say they will be expanding that into 5A and 6A next year. It needs to be six teams in a district minimum. And no more than eight.

Reese Moore celebrates after catching a 42-yard TD pass in their win over Dalhart.

Reese Moore and the Seminole Indians defeated Dalhart this evening 43-6. An interesting note, the game was played at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM

Moore caught TWO 42-yd TD passes, both in the first half. One TD pass came from Alex Menchaca and the other from Jordan Rodriguez.

Seminole will play the winner of the Waxahachie Life vs Iowa Park in next week's area round.

Two of our commits, Wakeland's Rhafiti Ghirmai and Arp's Demarvion Overshown, ended their high school football careers tonight. Both played in losing causes this evening.

A tip of the hat to both of them on a fine season.

Laughable that 2-8 teams make the playoffs in 5-6 team "districts". Exhibit A - Lake Worth, one of the worst teams I've ever seen in my officiating career. Got smoked by Midlo Heritage in Round 1, 74-12.

What a shit-show. How does that "playoff experience" enrich student-athletes' lives? Playoff expansion is a UIL-sponsored money grab under the guise of inclusion and "fairness".

Exactly. If anything, that had to be humiliating for the kids whom the UIL were trying to help. I suppose this is all a self-esteem thing again. Boy does that ever backfire in this situation.

Roschon Johnson with a MONSTER game.

Sounds like he is already in a league of big 12 defenses lol should be ready!

Mr Johnson had over 500 yards of offense tonight.

Tomorrow, Texas will likely be lucky to get half of that as a team.

No final numbers for Johnson yet, BUT, late in the 4th quarter Mr Johnson had 294 yards passing and 231 yards rushing with 9 touchdowns. He scored again later for his 10th touchdown of the night.

Texas commits Jalen Green (Houston Heights) and Malcolm Epps (Dekaney) both ended their seasons this evening.

Final numbers for Roschon: 598 total yards (326 passing, 272 rushing). 10 total touchdowns.

Is that good?

He's headed for a fifth star. And thats not a bad way to hit the home stretch of your 2018 recruiting campaign.
