Former Bama Player

this is exactly how i feel!!
I believe in facts and reality. The reality is - Mack is still here.

That being said, McPhaul has said a few things that i know to be fact, as well. I'm just a poster, like you, so whether you believe me or not is not important to me. But I know what I know and suffice it to say, as an OLD Austin native, Longhorn grad with friends as old as me and WELL CONNECTED to my beloved university, I sometimes get a little used and abused information and McPhaul has been dead on on a couple of his predictions.

As an aside, Mack Brown is really a good person. You would want him as your friend as loyalty to friends is a big part of his makeup. It is also his failing. He HATES hurting his friends and firings and hard decisions are beyond difficult for him to do - even when it must be done. And this includes himself, it appears.

But Mack is soon to leave us.

umm. maybe at auburn thats how they do things with the petrino-gate. but not in Austin. how does that make your program look when the HC has to worry about boosters going behind his back and trying to hirer a new HC before a decision is even made on the current one?
Yes, this was just not right.

How can you prove my sources wrong? You believe everyone elses. You must follow mine as well. I just find it HIGHLY suspicious that a former player of Alabama would reach out to McPhaul, of all outlets, to release such information. It makes absolutely no sense that a former player would contact someone that runs a board of a team that is trying to hirer the coach at his alma mater. And like it was said before, that player would have to be very very close to Saban. Rolondo McClain? Who in their right mind would do that? NO ONE. If you have that kind of info and you are that close of a friend then you dont go around and telling stuff that your friend confided in you to people that run message boards. Ill be here forever so good luck trying to get rid of me. If he comes then I will man up. The only thing ive been critical of are the people that say its 100% done deal when there isnt even a coaching job open and that boosters are calling the shots at our school which happens to be a public university. so that kind of ticks me off being a taxpayer and fan of UT athletics.
Believe everyone? Not even close! Those few that have proven track records over the last few years, yea I believe they have sources and have proven to pass along legit information. Does that mean that all information that gets passed along is accurate? Obviously not, especially when you consider that the information depends on who the source is, are they getting mis-information, or the translation gets lost in the message. The people have personal and business relationships with people and guess what they are humans as well. People talk, that is how stories have broke since news has been around.

Now you are a big boy/girl and you can believe what you want. Yes, you should always take everything being leaked with a grain of salt, but to call it all BS is just plain ignorant.

As for the 100%, sure nothing is 100% and many are not saying that. However you have been going after people discussing things that are not saying it is 100%. As far as the BMDs getting people lined up for a job that is not open yet. Might as well stay pissed off then. That is pretty status quo.

Honestly people want to hope for the best and being that this is a discussion board we have that right as do you. Doesn't mean you have to agree and you obviously have a right to post your point of view. However you have been coming off very condescending to anyone that is thinking Saban may be coming here. Try being a little less confrontational in your points.

Before your attempt to ridicule McPhaul, did you consider who the "former player" could possibly be. McPhaul may have been a bit too cryptic, but do you think the "former player" might be a member of Alabama's BOR? And, as such, is damned sure privy to Saban's response to an extension proposal?Did you consider that as a possibility, I wonder?
Not ridiculing McPhaul at all, just find it strange. I did consider Alabama's Board of Trustee and not one one them played for Alabama. UA System

As long as the former player wasn't Joe Namath oh wait he's off the juice. Actually I really hope he is right, we need Nick here ASAP

Ive been condescending to people that say its a 100% done deal when its anything but. This post by McPhaul is really really strange tho. Did this player just email him or call him? If so, how did he verify that it was infact the person that they said they were? What accountability does ANYONE have here if they post lies or they dont check their sources? Its not 100% done deal cause it would have been reported if that were the case.

This proves you are a lot smarter than me and proves, as well, that I shouldn't be so condescending. Please accept my apology.

As far as McPhaul, and the rest of the internet prognosticators, they have contacts that most of us don't. I know, for a fact, that McPhaul certainly does. You would be surprised if you knew who.

That being said, even their contacts have agendas. And their agendas are, most certainly, colored by their bias. And, this is important, THEY COULD BE WRONG AS WELL. (dammit - getting condescending again - sorry).

Do you like the direction of the program under Mack?
No i dont. I want change like every one else. But i wont say that another coach is 100% done deal until we have an ACTUAL OPENING. we dont and these rumors have been going on for over a year and it seems to only be on our boards. no where else is this even discussed besides our boards. If there was anything to the rumors you'd be seeing more action on the Alabama boards as well. Insiders on BOTH sides would be spewing stuff to their readers. not just one side. you wouldnt pass up such website exposure and the amount of hits you create to better market your self for advertisements. Seems more like thats what they are doing than anything else. increase that ad revenue!

Former player notifies you but no one else? Former Texas player from the 01-04 team that was in the top 3 in tackles informed me that Mack will be back.
Bless your heart.

Edit: Can understand your being skiddish re: a former Bama player contacting McPhaul -- but it's harder for me to buy that Mack's coming back in 2014 in light of what we've read and heard since Sept if not earlier.

Again, the meeting with Sexton was not reported and in fact denied until Belmont could not lie anymore. I have no reason to lie.

Let me ask you orangeman01, do you mind telling me what state you live in?

Would Paul Finebaum of ESPN count. The mouth piece of the SEC just said on his radio show that last week he would have said that there was no way Saban would leave Alabama. However, today, even he admits it is a little strange that Saban hasn't signed his extension yet and there is growing concern from Alabama as it pertains to their fanbase.

Not sure what to tell you. That's just how it's done and truly, you should be thankful. It's just the most efficient way of getting things done.

The tax dollars don't come close to getting us where we have to be. It's the big bucks from successful people who love the University that make things work, hence the reason they are knee deep in this and have been for quite some time.

As far as the opening at Texas for a HC, Mack is about to announce retirement. It will happen between Tuesday and Thursday. There's your opening.

You're free to your own opinion and you're own sources. We don't HAVE to follow your sources. In the past 24 hours, you've revealed an agenda. That calls your info into question for me.

You seem like a nice enough guy and I don't know why you have such a problem with all this.

I'm content because I know that even if the Saban stuff falls through, Texas will hire the very best coach out there not named Saban.

So I appreciate your response, but here's what I don't get. I want change as much as you do and I think all of us will believe it when we see it, but what I don't get is what appears to be your negative and challenging outlook on anything McPhaul or others provide as to what their sources tell them. Frankly I'm excited at the scoop I'm hearing and glad they're sharing it, but I need to see it happen to believe it. I don't automatically accuse the mods of trying to generate subscribership or getting ad clicks higher. I guess I 'm just struggling to understand the approach your taking as your replies and questions seem negative and argumentative in tone. I'm probably a bit defensive of those questioning McPhaul as I grew up in the same hood with him here in the ATX and I know he's connected, but it feels like you have an odd agenda for wanting change as badly as we all do within our football program. Just my 2 cents.

Ive stated many times that i live in Tenneessee and moved here from Ft. Hood. Again, that meeting was also reported by reputable sources and verified(something that journalist usually do before putting stuff out there) . again, why would a Former Bama player contact you?was this done through email or phone?did you verify this person was who they said they were. or did you just go ahead and post something? I know you have no reason to lie but you do have an agenda. but the manner in which you receieved this information is relevant. You are an excellent writer as ive already stated. its just a little odd that the only people reporting this are UT "insiders" and fans of the rivals of UT and UA. Cowherd picked up on it and dropped it immediately cause there was nothing he could confirm. just rumors.

Cowherd also reported that Saban was to sign an extension. Didn't happen.

Cowherd simply went with the "safe" story. He had no confirmation on it as we can see now, so obviously this was something he did not confirm but went ahead with anyway. Saban staying at Bama was a safer bet in his eyes than Saban to Texas.

It's too bad. That would have certainly put him out there when all this goes down.

life is really not this difficult. if you dont like the information or dont want to read it, dont. no one is forcing you to run to vegas and bet all of your cash on the outcome. most of us are aware of how these things play out and appreciate the information. you know its quite possible none of this happens and that is perfectly ok. that doesnt mean mcphaul was wrong or you were misled, etc... it means to me that The University doesnt know how to hire a football coach.

this is a new age of information and the 1st time Texas has hired a football coach with so many different information outlets. sit, back, relax, and F5.

If his sources were right they wouldve gotten the AD hire correct. they didnt. ONE of his predictions come true then i will start being less critical. until then he's got nothing to back up what he's saying. When Mack Brown steps down(like he was supposed to 7days ago). I dont follow people blindly especially when theres no reason to. I'd think that the better talk to discuss would be IF, WHEN, and HOW MB will step away. Not our coach is going to be Nick Saban 100%. Now, McPhaul has certainly backed off on the 100% and wrote a nice out for him on the last crossfire in order to save face and still appear to be an insider if Saban doesnt come. He's a very talented writer and it shows in how he's easily able to get people to believe his narrative as Fact. Id rather have more constructive talks about the future of our program than it being solely about a coach that will very likely never coach here. People ignore the fact that Saban's son just got married and moved to Austin and the fact that Terry is a real estate agent who has bought and sold property in Austin before. The guy with the Nebraska story is proving a good point. He's getting people to believe that. The internet is good for a lot of things but its also really bad in spreading baseless rumors. All you have to do is be a good writer and you can make any fiction into nonfiction on these boards.
