Follow Up on Program Changes

I don't agree with Augie being put on notice. He doesn't deserve that. I'm guessing after this season that tune will change.
That being said, he's probably in his last 1-3 years anyway.
He better win big this year.

Look, all these guys have done amazing things at Texas but haven't sustained excellence. No one should expect National Championships every year, but no coach at Texas should ever miss bowls or postseason tournaments. There is too much built in advantage at UT for some of the programs to have fallen as far as they have.

The basic standard should be to keep the fans engaged. Mack has lost the fans and DKR has been a boring experience. Barnes had a decent showing at the Michigan State game, but the fans don't seem to care about the brand of play. Baseball is a tough sell, but unless the product on the field is fun to watch, no one is going to show up.

With all the advantages Texas has to offer coaches, they should at least be able to field teams the fans want to follow. Once they fail to meet that standard, their continued tenure deserves to be questioned.

Exactly, I was trying to say that earlier

Plonsky will be given an option - stay in a subordinate position or leave..
Why does she get an option? Her position is being eliminated. Give her her severance and be done with it.

Fixing men's BB will require a lot more than a new coach (not that I don't' think that is necessary). We desperately need the right kind of arena and some major changes in seat allocation. All of that is going to take nearly a decade to complete. There is no single magic bullet to fix basketball although in Patterson I trust.

I think Patterson will make helluva hires when the time comes for those to be made...BB hire will pale in comparison to the current situation w/ MB.

Augie has nothing left to prove and I can see him leaving soon and without the distraction that we are facing now w/ MB...common thread w/ these hires is I don't think they kick n scream like you know who...

Unless the football program gets choice number 1, then I am very nervous about Patterson making this hire. It wouldn't have been any better if he was teamed up with Powers. Patterson has a basketball background. I enjoy basketball, but I love football, with a passion. And we should face it now, it is what pays the bills.

Hook 'em, and let's do this right!

The last two years have been atrocious and there is no other way to spin it. We haven't made any real noise in quite a while. Augie doesn't deserve a pass based upon his history any more than Mack. It is up to Augie to make the tune change. Fortunately for him he normally follows a couple of crap seasons with a couple really strong ones. I hope you are right, but I think he is the MOST "entitled" of our coaches. I do hope he has been told to get it together, or else. I'm sure he's pondering how many years left he wants to coach. If this year isn't special, it might not be his choice, and that would be appropriate.

Define "quite a while".. we were in the CWS final in 09. Went 50-13 in 2010 and lost in the Supers to a solid TCU team with a deadly 1-2 pitching punch, and 49-19 in 2011 and went to the CWS. So, I'd politely disagree that we haven't "made noise"

I remember abe lemons....basketball...he was a draw at games just by being himself...His famous saying..(he was famous for his sayings)"If you finish last in your league they call you an idiot" "If you finish last in medical school they call you Doctor"

First of all I am not an Augie hater. Far from it. But I am not willing to apply a double standard to one coach over another. I guess we have different levels of expectations and I am less likely to give a pass. So what if I put it to you this way. Spring sports actually start the calendar year, but can you argue with this comparison?

'09 Baseball: We were in the CWS final in '09, lost in a tough series. Maybe if Woods didn't throw his heart, guts and arm out having to get us there, we might win.

'09Football: We were in the BCS final, lost a tough game. Maybe if Colt plays even a full half we hand Bama their ass.

'10 baseball loses in the Supers, at home, in a match up that probably shouldn't have been made. That was an SEC seeding special. TCU should have gone elsewhere for the Super.

'10 football is a complete disaster of historical proportions.

'11 baseball gets a little worse in the regular season but gets the CWS appearance and promptly goes 2 and Q

'11 football climbs back some 8-5 or whatever, but "not our standard."

'12 Baseball 30-22, pretty much suckage for any Big XII program, especially us

'12 Football shows minimal improvement with 9 wins and beats a higher ranked team in our bowl.

'13 Baseball is a disaster and embarrassment of historic proportions.

'13 Football craps then falls back into it, but still has a winning record.

So here we sit. Explain to me, using logic, why Mack must go but Augie gets a pass? It could be argued that Mack leveled it off while Augie is still spiraling downward. So if Mack was BCS or bust, which is basically a top 8 team...I say Augie is CWS or bust, basically a top 8 team.

'10 and '11 comparisons should answer that for you. Compare '11 CWS to a BCS bowl loss and Mack probably isn't fired right now (yet)
