1977. FR year. Hadn't beat the bastards in 7 years.

New coach, new offense and we'd beaten 3 tomato cans by huge numbers, but it didn't matter. we had to beat ou.

Three memories burned in the brain. UT QBs going down immediately. Earl hurdling his way to a TD. Goal line stand to save the win.

good, good times.

As I recall, '68 was game two of a pretty fine 30 game win streak. ou still sucks.

1957. According to my parents..... about 15 hours after I was conceived.

My birthday is July 19th, so yes, probably true. My brothers birthday is July 23. So.....

I was taken to a few games when I was really young but I don't remember them. I started going my junior year in high school. I've missed just two games since 1974. May not be a big deal to you Older Dallas guys but I've never lived in Dallas or Ft Worth. I always make the trip up from Houston or Austin(when i was in school.)

My best guess is this is my 42nd ou game.

My first Texas/OU memory wasn't actually in the game, but the night before on Commerce Street personally witnessing a couple having sex on the hood of a car. I was about 14. (1966 or so).

Bravo

My first Texas/OU memory was also on Commerce Street in 1985.  A buddy's dad had rented an RV and we parked it on Commerce.  Charged girls to use the bathroom; charged okie girls triple.

1980.... Basil Banks of OU had been talking trash all week.... He was leveled on a punt return & fumbled...

Also, I had won tickets from a radio station... My wife & I gasped as we realized we were sitting in a sea of crimson....

I thought I'd be forced into a fight or at least harassed all day..... Actually, they were pretty nice to us,,, and we won...

1958 - Texas 15 - 14

I watched slow footed Bobby Lackey complete a pass to slower footed Bob Bryant for the first UT win since WWI (or so it seemed).

It was Royal's first win over OU and it started Bud Wilikinson thinking about retiring.

2001. It was a pitchers dual, the type that would make JimR proud. The Longhorns were down 7-3 and forced OU to punt with a little over 2:00 left. As the punt headed inside the five yard line, Nathan Vasher comes out of nowhere and slides to save the ball from bouncing into the endzone for a touchback. Instead of the Horns starting at the 20, Simms and the offense began the drive at the 3.

Brett Robin came in and lined up a tailback, which signaled that we were in a sure passing situation. Prior to the snap, a safety and linebacker moved close to the line, indicating an overload blitz to Simms' left. The Texas QB gave a look at the defensive alignment, signaled to his right, and called for the snap all in about a two second timeframe. As the ball was snapped, suddenly a white jersey flew through the air and hit Simms' arm as it moved forward in attempt to make a quick pass. The trajectory of the ball was quickly changed and landed in the hands of the blitzing LB, who walked untouched into the endzone.

It was an awful day, but the experience of going to a RRR (or RRS or whatever) is a football experience that is unmatched.

1957

OU 21 UT 7

DKR's first year, and my dad had surprised the family with tickets under our turned over dinner plates one evening. Alas, on game day I was in the throes of an asthma attack, which knocked me for a loop in those days. my mother reluctantly allowed me to go to the game, but her condition was that I sit quietly and not jump up and down and yell. UT scored first and gave OU a strong fight, but OU eventually prevailed. I complied with the restriction, but it was difficult.

I also was there in 1963 when #2 UT kicked #1 OU's ass. what a great day!

1961 with All American James Saxton running the ball.  Went to number 1 before that sorry sonny gibbs and the chickenshit TCU Cockroaches knocked my horns out of the NC hunt with a cheap shot knee to the head in Memorial Stadium.

But i'm over it.

Same game, but was my Jr year.  The electricity in the air during that game was tremendous.  I have been to many OU games that were exciting, but did not quite reach that same level.  Over the years I think that the 2006 NC game & the 1990 UofH games were for me the two that matched the level of intensity.  Today Bleacher Reports came out with their ranking of the top 10 Red River Rivalry moments in Texas football history & this game topped their list.  I agree.

1977 wasn't my first Texas/OU game. Just wanted to add to the "memories burned in the brain" plays

of the 1977 game.  Even after the tremendous goal line stand in the 4th quarter, Texas had to punt.

Russell Erxleben launched a tremendous punt, going about 65 yards or so, OU fielded the ball and

Robin Sendlein SMASHED the OU returner with a vicious tackle. The next night, on the "Texas Longhorn

Football" show, Fred Akers reviewed Sendlein's hit and said "That's what Texas/OU football is all

about". Anybody who attended the 1977 game will never forget Erxleben's punt and Sendlein's tackle.

I will never forget  that play and that game. Hook 'em Horns!
