Final College Football Poll:

Alabama - #1
Oregon - #2
Florida State - #3
Ohio State - #4

TCU, Baylor left out.

And the Big 12 needs to find a way to lock-down a conference championship game in the future.  It clearly hurt Baylor & TCU in this case.

More evidence of the fact that the Big 12 is a joke, at least as perceived by the national media and the selection committee.  Five one loss teams in the country vying for 3 playoff spots.  The Big 12 has 2 of those teams and gets no teams in.

It is pure BS.

We need a real playoff.  Take the subjective bs out of it.  People are easily influenced, they are flawed, as is this committee.

Give us a real playoff, or get rid of the NCAA and let the schools handle it.

Politicians, professors, business people on the committee - I give this format one more chance before it is scratched.  They put in OSU because an outcry from them would have been more damaging to the system.

Hook 'em!

Interesting comments by the chairman of the committee:

  • Big12 co champions was a factor - Shame on the Big12 for presenting co champions and not having a championship game.
  • Ohio State - conference championship made a big difference
  • Last week 3-6 was a toss up...hmmmm
  • Head to head did make a difference between Baylor & TCU - Finally
  • Strength of schedule made a difference - Hear that Baylor
I'm not sure they didn't get it right.

Once they release the rest of the poll, that's when we'll really be able to start projecting Texas with certainty. With Baylor and TCU not making the playoff, that basically assures KSU will not play on NYD.

I posted this in the other thread last night:

8-4 OU

7-5 WVU

6-6 Texas

6-6 OSU

Russell Athletic picks first: They'll get major pressure from UT officials, but I can't imagine them dropping down 2 places in the standings to grab them. With Knight and Shepard out, they do have a ready-made excuse.

Texas Bowl picks second: It makes too much financial sense for them to pick the Horns. That's my projection as of tonight.

Liberty Bowl picks third: I think they'll be happy to take a 7-5 WVU that is somewhat close geographically.

Cactus Bowl picks last: They're just happy to get a Big 12 team and not have to pick a random.

I'm back to what I said when the Bugeaters (Neb) and the bitches (aggies) whined and cried and sold their souls for the almighty $$$$$$.

Add Louisville not TCU (though they have done better than I thought). . .add BYU or beaten the Pac to the punch with Utah and a team like Pitt plus a team nearer to us, AF or Colo State (both of which draw close to CU).  ..or drop down and add teams like ECU, UCF and USF .. .go to 12-14 or 16 teams. . . create better regional rivalries. . .

CFB is still a regional sport

Travesty IMO that TCU didn't get in. Just another reason to push for 8 teams to make the CFB Playoffs.

Big 12 was arguably the best conference in football this season.

Travesty was blowing a 21 point lead (largely in part to piss poor coaching calls). . .face it, anyone with a lick of common sense knows the co-champ thing is a loser and it bit TCU in the butt. . . .why they should have been ahead of a team that beat them.  .with the same record. . just silly. . . .

Though I agree, top to bottom, this was the best football conference in the nation.

But an 8 team playoff is a logistical nightmare and unworkable. . .also, I want NO SYSTEM that takes away from the importance of playing hard every weekend. . . . .

UNLESS. . . you go to 8 divisions of 64 to 72 teams (an article I have half written) .. .then the "conference title game" 1st week of Dec becomes round 1 of the playoffs setting up our current system.  Kids then have 2 weeks off for finals before the current playoff system has begun.

I would argue that the Big12 is, after the Big10, the worst conference in college football -- or at least according to perception - which at the end of the day is all that counts.

Why are Big12 schools the only schools in the FBS power 5 scrutinized for having weak OOC schedules?  It's because the conference schedule is weak and they need to beef up their SOS by scheduling quality OOC opponents.  I remember when the last Big12 conference realignment happened and Texas decided to stay in, that we would have to beef up our OOC schedule to make up for the weak conference schedule in order to be competitive nationally.  You don't hear these conversations with SEC of Pac12 schools.

It has nothing to do with the Big 12 perception. If it had been Texas and OU and not little old Baylor and TCU, you can bet Texas or OU would have gotten in. Its all about $$$$$$.
