ESPN: Tom Herman's biggest offseason priorities

RickyWilliamsParadeWave.jpg

University of Texas Heisman Trophy winning running back Ricky Williams is saluted by the thousands as they lined Congress Ave. during a parade celebrating Williams and the UT football team’s winning season Thursday afternoon January 29, 1999. Here Williams waves to fans in the highrises as he is flanked by Graduate Assistant football coaches Tom Herman, left, and Oscar Giles, right.

Damn, did Herman really start off his first meeting with the players by saying "STFU and sit up straight in your chairs"?
Here is what supposedly happened. Can't vouch for the accuracy or how much it has been embellished.

Herman walks to the podium and his first words are "Sit the ****up". There was silence and he says, "I want your feet on the floor, shoulders back and your eyes on me".

About 75-80 percent of the team followed orders. Herman then repeated himself in a louder voice, "I said feet on the floor, shoulders back and eyes on me". All but one player, a true freshman, followed orders.

Herman reportedly singled out that player and said, "Son....what is your name"?

Story stops here with the added statement that the players got the message that if you don't follow his orders, there's no hiding from him.

There was no "good way" for Herman to leave Cougar High.

They were gonna be butt-hurt, bayou aggies regardless of how it went down. What a bunch of crybabies!

I will, however, appreciate Mrs. Herman more if she doesn't engage the trolls on Twitter. That's a no-win situation and it's embarrassing to The University.

Fill the vacuum of coaching on this team. Three years of wasted time on these athletes has been a travesty.

My response is a variation but I thought the article weak bordering on stupid.

Herman's talk of alignment. . . .and of process.    That is what CFS lacked, which manifested itself with a coaching vacuum and a complete lack of direction.

#1 thing is to establish a culture focused on winning, focused on doing the work every day to achieve an ultimate goal.

Herman could whiff entirely on this year's recruiting class and it would not matter.

What will matter most is Sept to Nov of 2017 and setting up 2018 recruits.

Someone has replied to the above with this;

Nope. Never happened . What TH said was " OK, Everybody shut up and listen to me. ". At no point was the "F" word used.

Schroeder calls us "tu"... Which obviously means.... He's an aggy! Or at least identifies enough with them to use the lame "tu" BS. Of course he's going to be butthurt that his beloved coach left for "tu".

Btw, of course Herman didn't go after any Ohio State recruits.... Does anyone think that an Ohio State recruit would really flip to play at UH instead?? This guy is a moron

So it happened. .  ..just that an F-Bomb may or may not have been dropped . . .

Keeping in mind that Herman loves him some F Bombs so if it wasn't used then, will be in the future.

echeese:

I don't always agree with some of your assessments but this is spot on in my opinion.  I feel Strong's lack of attention to detail was his downfall.  I'm not a detail person myself, but I know, if you are going to run a large operation, you had better have several detail people on board or the small details will come back to kick you butt.  Others on this board keep saying they don't know why Charlie did not succeed but I think this is why.

I've met the guy before and he's not an aggy (maybe he's a wanna-be deep down in his heart) but he is an asshole.  I don't think he realizes how stupid most of the nation thinks the whole "tu" thing is; it could be arrogance or it could be ignorance but it's not surprising.
