As I explained in detail in a previous post, at best you have a push on what was expected this season from this team. No one called a win over USC, OU, OSU. No one called a win over KSU or a loss to Maryland. So we're back to square one about where we figured we'd be. And we're having a big fat cow about it.

We're a spoiled fan base when we refuse to remember our own thoughts and words of just a few months ago
Good post, although I take issue with the portion above.

Anyone who was expecting a 3-4 start to the year was a  fringe minority.  Ditto with the idea that us beating K State was unexpected.

Spoiled fan base - oh, you bet.  Unrealistic expectations - I'm beginning to think so.  But I can maybe recall one or two radical fringe elements saying we can expect about a .500 record.  On the contrary, most here and elsewhere actually bought the Charlie Strong cake theory.  I blush now at my own preseason prediction!

Truth of the matter is this, our defense has improved; improved more than any realistic person could have expected.  Our offense has regressed about as much as the defense has progressed.  Special teams has inched up from the worst I have ever seen at the college level to unacceptably bad.  If I see one more fair catch inside the 5 yard line I just might.... I digress....

As a whole, we are a little better than last year.  This was not the preseason expectation.

Rational thinking people make assessments at the end of the season and can easily see we are in a different universe than we were any of the last 6-7 seasons.
I think rational people would expect our offense to be better than this shitshow on the field considering we were top 20 in both rushing and total offense last year under a NEW OC and OL coach.  Tom Herman MENSA offensive wiz.  Stan Drayton NFL RB Co Head coach.  Welp right now Gilbert's result shame Hermans and Becks results.

I think most rational people didnt expect our defense to be this good.  We were so bad last year.  So do I credit Tom Herman for doing a great job?  Nah.  I do give him credit for hiring Orlando, the true genius.

The one cure for everyone here is to WIN

The difference some of you guys:

Blue Pill:

Dont mind if it takes another 3 years..  There is always hope to hang on.  Example: "We are not getting blown out"

Red Pill:

Where is this potent offense TC is known for?  To some of us 7-8 years of a total shitshow is long enough.  We are completely wasting a great defense with pee wee offense.

I wish I was the former (blue pill) but alas I am not.  I expect results, creativity, production, blah blah.

"Why oh why didnt I take the blue pill."

I think I'm a pretty rational person and I thought, at worst, we would be 4-3 at this point and possibly even 5-2.

I also thought our defense would be really good and that our offense wouldn't be far behind.

Charlie did a nice job on the recruiting front, but did us no favors on the OL. If you will recall, we began recruiting a different type of OL when he hired Warehime. Smaller, more agile or whatever it was. They did get Connor, so there's that.

I can't recall a single poster saying we'd beat Kansas State. Everyone thought we'd get blown out in the coliseum. Most of us thought we'd play OU a good game but also thought OSU would clean our clock.

I'd say we're right about where we thought we'd be. Yet, you'd never know that from the sky is falling stuff.

We'll see how Herman deals with this situation. He's had way too much success before this season for me to just throw popcorn at him halfway through his first season at Texas. I think he's smarter than most of he folks who will read this board.

We lost to Kansas last year. Friggin Kansas.

We damn near beat USC in their house this year. Friggin USC.

What's worse? I don't think anyone really needs to answer that in print, do you?

You did and so did I.  Maybe I dont remember exactly but I thought we would win then again the only I thought we would lose was USC.

I think most reasonable fans thought to have a "successful" year we had to win 2 of OU, OSU, USC, TCU. That's gone ! So now we can have a "good" year if we beat Baylor,  Kansas,  Tech, and one more.  If we beat TCU and WV, a very good year. If you really thought 9 wins, you're an optimist. But I think recruits like BIG wins, one of the top 4. We have to keep this class together.

Might want to consider Herman was undefeated at UH vs top 25 teams.

He is winless in 3 attempts so far here.

No matter how you slice it UH had more talent or a better OC or both.

If you say more talent than you must believe recruiting class rankings are meaningless

Sirhornsalot,

I have no quarrel with you.  Well.... other than this.  If you have the time and inclination (I don't) research what the preseason predictions were for our record this year in the archives of this site.  I think you will be surprised that we have already maxed out or surpassed the number of games most thought we would lose all year.  Unreasonable expectations?  Perhaps - but those were the expectations.

Furthermore, I believe that most of us thought Tom the Herman would knock off at least one of the teams who were clearly favored to beat us; this WAS his modus operandi.  And please don't tell me KState is one of those.  I simply disagree that most people were chocking that up as a loss.  Weren't we favored??

Furthermore, furthermore, Charlie recruited well for us, except on the OLine, and thus 3-4 justified?

Furthermore X 3, We still have to play Baylor and Kansas.  Please don't jinx us.

Bottom line - I am not regretting hiring the MENSA coach.  And I recognize injuries, lack of depth at a few positions, etc... I expected more though.  I certainly expected more out of our offense and special teams.

I haven't looked at all the preseason predictions but this was a well respected poster's predictions.

I would simply urge you to look at the calendar and then again at your post.

We're halfway through a season with the easiest stretch to come, and you're passing judgement as if the season is over.

FYI, we have already played and defeated K State. I don't know how anyone could jinx that now. I'll chalk that up to a typo since you denied thinking we'd beat K State earlier this year.

The optimists on this board were saying things like 10-2, 9-3. But 8-4 and 7-5 were quite common. All we're doing now is creating something to laugh about when we act like this never happened.

Ok, think about what you just posted. lol

Then think about WHY on Oct. 7, 13th and 20th wins were being predicted. Why did that happen? What made people think that could happen?

Getting blown out by USC, OU, etc., were not the reasons why people suddenly developed confidence.

I guess we're now going to talk about how everyone thought Buechele should be our QB right now, too? lol

Okay, you're right. The program is a shit show and not worthy of further commentary. I've been persuaded that its more profitable for me to keep whatever positive thoughts I have to myself. We have a meltdown in progress and I am an obstacle between the mob and that meltdown. I am officially out of the way. lol

Buenos suerte.

We're halfway through a season with the easiest stretch to come, and you're passing judgement as if the season is over.  No, I am disappointed in a 3-4 start; I expected better.   I would urge you to quote something I have said that indicates I have declared the season over.  Again, who wouldn't be disappointed in our offense? Remember, it was very good last year.

At this point its just easier to say "yeah, we suck" and stay away from football threads for a while.

I've made the case as much as I'm willing to make it.

Texas 14

Baylor 32

I'm going with 9-4 (including a bowl win)! I know that means we have to win out and as difficult a task that is, we're capable of doing so.  But I also took the orange pill so there's that...

I'm still positive SHA

Change never comes in a day. It takes time for coaches to mould teams and players into the teams and players they want.

I think once we demote Tim Beck all will be right in the world

I was just trying to provide an answer to 83Dee by selecting a random but very knowledgeable members prediction.

I don't think rehashing the QB situation would be very productive at this time. lol

LOL! We may have to rehash the QB situation tho RickyFlair.  As a matter of fact, I started a post. about it.  Our starter has a concussion.  Our backup and previous starter is wearing a walking boot.  And our previous starting QB turned slot receiver turned backup QB may have to start and produce a win with a porous oline and a limited playbook....

Now you're talking. Misery loves company.

Wait...what happens to Kate if you stay away from the thread?

Lets not get carried away. I kind of think we might win out too and I'm going to post at least one positive comment everyday.
