Is this throwing the players under the bus?

I come from a family of coaches, male and female, down through the decades. My take on this quote is, does it work for the coach as well? For instance, try the quote this way.

"We don't have huge margin for error," Patterson said. "As the AD I have put [coaches] in the right position but then they have to go out, recruit the right players, teach them the right technique, hold them accountable and teach them how to make plays."

See? If Patterson had made that statement publicly, it would certainly have raised more than a few eyebrows. Mack should be held to the same standard.

So in my opinion, yes, he's throwing his kids under the bus by saying the obvious. It doesn't need to be said. Just like when he threw his coaches under the bus in the middle of the 2010 season. He didn't need to do it then either, but he did. That's when Mack lost what little credibility he had left with me. Now? It's four years later and he's doing it again.

I know it's been said before and I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing it again but it doesn't make it less true.

It's time.

that means Texas Tech may have a chance to dump 65+ on Texas on Thanksgiving. I'll bet they will be very thankful. Hard to find a bigger, better turkey than Texas for the occasion.

Baylor might attempt to break the Big 12 record by dumping 77 points on Texas just to make a stronger case for a spot in the NC title game. There may be up to 4 undefeated teams at the end of regular season. Baylor must find a way to stand out. If I were Briles, I'd go for 80+. Otherwise it's hard to see how Baylor make the spot unless Alabama loses to Auburn.

I'll bet that's been Mack Brown's mentality all his life. He just try to pick the best fruits of high school coaches, and then expect the players to win at the college level. He's not alone. Sometime around 2003, I talked to the chair of UT's theatrical arts / drama dept. - he said something like "coaches can't do much; it's all up to the players" in response to my suggestion that Mack Brown should be fired.

Mack Brown needs to define what "right position" means. Same for Major Applewhite.

The truth is Mack lost this team back in 2010 and never really got them back.

Baghorn he changed horses on both sides of the ball. Then He throttled his new OC big time. So big time that he went to a new college sight unseen as fast as he could get out of dodge. Then he brought in a OC that he could also completely control. Bad thing is the OC's since 2010 have had much less talent to work with esp. at the QB spot. I do not know about if he got them back or not. But he sure did not do much with them if he did. We are fighting the last two years with all we have just to beat Iowa State and Kansas and West Virginia. It's really sad how far we have fallen.
