Directors Cup Thread

So what’s the status now that women won track and field and if we win the super regional?

I'm okay with this. We are still the best athletic department in the country. Hook'em
It's a tall hill for us to climb to win the Director's Cup, which makes the last two years that much more impressive.

Even if we don't win it all, there are some ways to look at things that definitely say we are the best all around.

We have made the NCAA postseason in 20/20 sports.

Our average Director's Cup points scored per sport will be around 70 - thats like a 6th or 7th place finish on average. Next best is Stanford, around 56 points, average of 18th place.

What does this mean at this point? Well, given that especially for some of these sports these are very early rankings, not much.

For Stanford, any score less than 60 is likely going to be thrown out regardless. Their +55 in men's water polo is probably a moot point as is their 23 and 14 point losses in M Golf and M Soccer. Given their overall point differential is +51, that +55 from water polo is doing most of the positive work.

Texas predicted scores isn't greatly changed but every sport for Texas is important. Moving to 21 sports this year, Texas does have 2 mulligans and we need one of those to be the Women's Cross Country score which is predicted to be 25 pts but could end up being a 0. Otherwise, no zeroes predicted in these sports is a good sign at this point.

Soccer secured a 5 seed and get a pretty easy matchup in austin against Lamar.

Rd of 32 would likely be in Wisconsin and if they make it to the sweet 16, a very tough test against 1 seed FSU.

Don't sleep on Lamar. They are a RPI top 50 team and have beaten Xavier who got a higher seed than the Horns. Can't overlook them.

That's good to know and I would not have guessed that. Having grown up in Beaumont I don't ever expect much from Lamar in athletics.

Soccer beats Lamar in round 1. This secures at least 50 points and matches last year. They will face 4 seed Wisconsin at their place. The #1 seed in the bracket, FSU won and will face A&M. I'll be rooting for Texas and A&M to both win and then we can beat A&M in Austin to advance.

Men's CC won their regional and will be 1 of 31 teams competing in the NCAA finals. They are well positioned for a top 10 finish.

Women's CC tied for 5th at the regional. This may be important as 5th place earns directors cup points, about 26 depending on how the at large bids shake out. Much better than putting a 0 on the score board but less than the 43 they earned last year.

Soccer beat Wisconsin today 2-1 and they advance to the sweet 16 for only the 5th time in school history. They've secured 64 points towards the directors cup (up from 50 pts last year).

They will play #1 overall seed FSU Sunday in what will be a very tough match up. Texas does have 2 of the best players in the country and the team has been playing really good lately.

Texas Soccer lost 5-0 to overall 1 seed FSU today. They secure 64 points.

Stanford advances to the elite eight. The bracket has been friendly to them as they got to face a 6 seed in the sweet 16 and a 5 seed in the elite 8.

Volleyball wins in 5 sets over Tennessee to advance to the elite 8. Potential match up vs Stanford awaits.

With strong volleyball and football finishes guaranteed, Texas will find themselves in the top 5 or better by the time the fall season wraps up.
