Mens and Womens tennis both took home big 12 regular season championships today. Men's squad did so by beating #3 TCU 5-2, the second time beating the former #1 team in the nation.

Men's team seems poised for a national championship run while the women's team looks to make the elite eight or better.

I'm not a huge fan of tennis but I actually watched some of the Texas vs TCU match last night. The Horns had to come from behind in several matches to pull it out. ?

Tennis is one of those sports where it is impossible to build a meaningful lead. You can win the first set 6-0, doesn't matter, the next set starts 0-0 and you've got to gain the advantage all over again. I feel the same about volleyball. It makes each match stressful throughout, regardless of what happens early on.

Looks for women's track to jump up in the rankings. The rankings by USTFCCCA are based on who has the best times recorded during the season. The womens squad will have multiple runners added to the top of the rankings in the 100, 200 and 400 as their best runners had not competed in the first few meets of the year. Julian Alfred and Rhasidat Adekele to be specific will be at the top or near the top in their respective events.

Yep, the women are now ranked #1 and they will have a legitimate shot at winning it all this year. It very well could be the contest that clinches the director's cup but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

The men's team did drop from #1 to #8 but that is not surprising either. They logged a lot of good times early in the season but other programs are now competing in meets and putting up better times. Arkansas jumped from #31 to #1 this week.

Men are too young to win it all this yeaR, IMHO.  Women, on the other hand, have a great shot.

Men's Tennis is heads to the Big 12 Tournament finals tomorrow for round 4 against #3 TCU. Can they make it 3 wins in a row against a team with no other losses this year except to Texas? They have almost definitely secured a 1 seed for the tournament.

Women's Tennis heads to the finals tomorrow as well. Will face off against #11 Iowa State or #14 Oklahoma. Winning could help them secure a 3 seed for the tournament but a 4 may be in play if they lose.

Women's Golf has had a bad outing at the big 12 championship. After winning the match play championship two weeks ago, they sit in 8th out of 9 teams and look to at best finish in 7th.

Men's Tennis lost to TCU today. They may very well remain ranked #1. They are 3-2 on the year against #2 TCU and #3 Ohio State combined.

Women's Tennis beat OU to win the big 12 tournament championship. Seeding for both teams happens next week, likely a 2 or 3 seed for the women.

Women's golf ended on a good note, having the 2nd best day of the field. This moved them up to 7th. At least they had a positive finish before NCAAs start.

Rowing had a few set backs this weekend. They didn't win any of the 3 major races in a meet against #3 Princeton and #4 Yale. Surprising result to say the least. They probably fall from the top spot when new rankings come out and will need to improve some to push for a 3rd consecutive championship

Women's golf was picked as a 2 seed for one of the 6 golf regionals. Seeding doesn't particularly matter in the same way it does for a bracket sport. At each regional, 12 teams compete and the top 5 advance to nationals (30 total). From here the top 8 teams advance to match play and the 8 team match play tournament determines the champion.

Here are the teams they face off against, remember, the don't need to win, just be in 5th place or higher.

LSU #3 WGCA Coaches poll rank (#3 Golfstat rank)

Texas #8 (#10)

Northwestern #14 (#15)

UCF #18 (#19)

Duke UR (#28)

Michigan State (#34)

California (#39)

Arkansas (#45)

Alabama (#49)

South Florida (#57)

Penn (#101)

Quinnipiac (#145)

So, all they need to do is beat out all the teams ranked #34 or worse to advance.

Men's Tennis secured the #1 overall seed. That means they get to host the first 3 rounds of the tournament - all the way up to the elite 8. It also means they get to avoid the only two teams that have beat them so far this year - TCU and Ohio State - until the championship. Texas would likely face Kentucky in the final four.

Women's Tennis landed the 8 overall seed (like a 2 seed in basketball). This also means they get to host the first 3 rounds. They would face off against 9 seed Pepperdine in the sweet 16 and if they win, would then face #1 overall seed UNC in the elite 8.

The seeding does match the rankings I have been using in my predictions so no changes there.

Men's golf will head to East Lansing as a 3 seed in a regional hosted by Michigan State.

The East Lansing Regional field includes (in seed order with Golfstat ranking): Illinois (3), Florida (10), Texas (15), Oregon (22), Kansas State (27), Georgia (34), Liberty (39), San Diego (46), Little Rock (50), host Michigan State (61), Wisconsin (66), Illinois State (109) and Purdue Fort Wayne (214).

They need to finish in the top 5 to advance.

Both Tennis teams advanced to the sweet 16. Both teams won both of their matches 4-0.

#8 Women's Tennis will face off against #9 Pepperdine in Austin this weekend. A win would increase the director's cup points from 64 to 73. Winner likely faces #1 UNC in the elite 8.

#1 Men's Tennis will host #16 UNC this weekend with the expectation that they should be able to advance to the elite 8.

Stanford also advanced both their tennis teams. Their men's team did pull an upset by beating #13 Columbia though this only add a couple of points to their projected point total.

Stanford beach volleyball also pulled a minor upset as a 10 seed they beat 7 seed Grand Canyon. My previous prediction (when they were ranked #8) did have them winning the round 1 match so no changes there.

Standings from the end of round 2 of women's golf regional.

Texas has played 2 good rounds - the 6th best overall yesterday and the 3rd best overall today. This has them in a tie for 4th which would be good enough to advance if it ended right now.

They are 2 strokes clear of 6th place and 5 strokes ahead of 7th/8th. If they can fend off those 3 they should be able to hold top 5 and advance.

Scary thing to note, #3 LSU is one of those teams 5 strokes behind them. It would be a big upset if they didn't have a good day tomorrow to advance.

They are also tied with 1 team, 1 stroke behind 3rd and 5 strokes behind 2nd so they have plenty of chances to move up the rankings with a good day as well.

Women's golf did indeed advance today as the ended tied for 3rd place.

I'm pretty sure they had the 4th best round each of the 3 days. Very consistent. Never a great day but never a bad day either. That is enough to advance. They will need to be more stellar to keep advancing though. 30 teams move on to nationals, after 3 rounds, the top 15 teams play another round to see who lands in the top 8 and from there it is match play.

#3LSU barely made it out of the regional with Texas but they pulled it off late. Not many other upsets overall - #7 auburn and #8 oregon failed to advance. #11 arizona state, #19 UCF and #20 Iowa State were the other top 20 teams to fail to make nationals.

In a dramatic match of 8 vs 9 seed, Texas edged out Pepperdine 4-3. Texas needed a big swing in the doubles point, fighting off 3 match points, to take it and then split the singles 3-3 with many of the matches going to 3 sets. It was a great team win and adds 9 points to the directors cup total.

They face #1 overall seed UNC in the elite 8 on Wednesday in Florida.

The #1 men's team beat N Carolina 4-0 last night to advance.

Men's Tennis swept UNC last night to also advance to the elite 8. They won 4-0 but were also in a good position to win the other 3 matches. They only lost 1 set as a team (they won 11 sets).

Texas will face the 9 seed in the next round.

Stanford Men lost as expected to #4 Kentucky.

#7 Stanford women beat #10 Ohio State. They will face #2 Texas A&M in the next round - its a lose lose proposition for Texas fans but for director's cup purposes it would be better if Texas A&M wins.

Unlike aggy (who would never root for us), we will root for them if it helps us.

Men's Golf is following the same script as the women's team, they have shot the 4th best score the 1st two days and sit in 4th place overall.

They importantly have an 8 stroke advantage over the cut line. I'd watch #10 Florida, they are tied for 6th but are the 2nd highest seed in this regional. Can they make a move and pass the Horns.

One more solid day of golf and the men will advance.
