Different take on Mack's latest negotiations

If Mack was truly a class act, he would not have dragged UT through the last 4 years of mediocrity to fill his own pockets and sate his own ego. He would not have fought to the bitter end to keep his job or stuck around for the Alamo Bowl while screwing around with "negotiations". He would have made a clean and honorable break with gratitude for all that The University of Texas has done for him. Then he would have disappeared from UT for five years the way Bobby Bowden did at FSU so that the university could heal and move forward to the future without him as an ongoing distraction. He would respect that no new coach would want him as a distraction from his process. He would know when to step away and he would not be playing the victim after he clearly failed to do his job effectively for a long period of time.

Unfortunately, Mack is a poor football coach and a greedy, self absorbed, self promoter and a control freak who carefully projects a false image of being a class act and a really good guy when in fact he is not. Mack was, is and always will be completely focused on what Mack wants at the expense of all other considerations. He believes he is bigger than the University of Texas.

Really appreciate your thoughts because to me Mack's currents actions have seemed somewhat out of character. He is concerned about his legacy and wanted to go out as a respected winner.

Outside of the 15-20K fans on the various websites (most of whom are not BMDs) and the relatively few BMDs who are actively involved in or stay in touch with the athletic program, I could see where Mack would be an asset in fundraising. However, I think this is a short sighted view of the collective long term impact his efforts will have. If we released him to go make a major contribution to ESPN's coverage and thus display his winning personality to a national audience, he would have a significantly larger impact on fundraising in 5-10 years.

If retaining him now and preventing him from being on ESPN is the administration's plan, this is a very short sighted and ineffectual effort.

I just wonder if one of the big reasons Mack was able to bring in donations from the BMDs is because he granted them special access to the football program. If he isn't part of the football program anymore and had nothing to offer the BMDs would they be as willing to hand over money? They no doubt would continue their donations, but to someone that could provide the special access they crave.

None of this was covered by Mack's contract which called for him to be our coach. . .

Do you understand that they are now negotiating a new contract that pays Mack to be a special assistant to the athletic dept? Under Mack's coaching contract. . he was allowed to make TV appearances and be compensated for them. . .

He does not have a coaching contract anymore. . .

BTW, many people do not mind the fact that Mack wants more money, they are upset that Mack has gone back on his word and put himself above the program by trying to retain the HC position.

Mackovic did win 3 conf titles in 6 years and he was not liked. That is because of his personality not because he only won 3 titles. He alienated everyone.

Mackovic was only interested in the offense, when he was given the opportunity to go hire the best DC available, he came up with BJW.

Mack has been given 2 opportunities to hire the best DC available, the first time he could only come up with Akina. The second time after viewing all candidates he could only come up with Diaz. Both coaches failed on the defensive side of the ball.

Both coaches are out of work,as it should be. Mack should stay far away.

Doug, you and me both.

He was a big reason I went the private board route long ago.

Mack did good things. He also was administered some historical beat downs.

He was paid well for it all.

The Big 12 was a shell of itself the past 4 years. A league Mack was barely above .500 during that time. 6 of those wins being against Kansas and Iowa state (barely twice)

Texas can do better.
