Different take on Mack's latest negotiations

A few tweets from Longhorn Scott today strung together--

Wescott Eberts@SBN_Wescott --
Per @statesman, Mack Brown wants a much bigger buyout than the $500k per year he's been offered by Texas

http://www.burntorangenation.com/2013/12/27/5247798/mack-brown-buyout-package-texas-longhorns-resignation

Mack Brown has made more than $700k per win since 2010, but wants more than $500k to basically do virtually nothing through 2020? Okay...

Failing to achieve to a standard he set and then demanding more money after more than fair buyout is a bad look for Mack Brown.

The buyout for being fired is $2.75 million. Initial resignation deal would pay him $3.5 million.

.... technically a resignation, which is why it's a little bit ridiculous that Brown now wants more money.

From a fundraising standpoint I would think that Mack having some national exposure would be a good thing.
Perhaps that demand did not come directly from us?

Chuck,
Who in this administration wants Mack to stay?

IMO, it is better for both parties to spend some time away from one another. There is going to be a new administration in place shortly and I would argue that it does not behoove Texas to have a bitter old coach hanging around the program.

BTW, many people do not mind the fact that Mack wants more money, they are upset that Mack has gone back on his word and put himself above the program by trying to retain the HC position.
Darrell you and I think alike.......like brothers from the other side of the street. The nail heads the you keep hitting. Hook'em :P

Those who know me. ..know that I look at the world differently than others. . .I am not a heard follower. . .never have been.

The internet world is exploding because Mack wants more money. . . .evil Mack. . .bad Mack. . .

But let's do some critical thinking and a bit of digging. . .

This is NOT the buy out. . .our admin wants Mack to stay. . .

One source has reported (by doing some digging) that the problem arose when they originally wanted an exclusive with Mack that would prohibit him from doing TV. . .contract likely worth $1.5 million plus to him. . ..yet wanted to pay him less than $600K . ..Mack's thought was to do both which isn't uncommon. .. .not unlike what he did after 2010 where he worked with both NFL channel and ESPN

So Mack asking for an additional $600K is actually him splitting the difference between what he thought he'd make and TEXAS' original offer. . .

Yes. . .I realize many won't like this. . .too easy to join the lynch mob and string him up. . .

Frankly. . .I think Mack should go to ESPN or NFL. . .break ties . ..let wounds heal. . ..and I think he'd be a star based on his work after the 2010 season. . .

Flame away. . .
h-e-r-d is what you don't follow. Heard is what you hear.

If Mack Brown machine gunned an orphanage, you would say they asked for it.

He resigned as the football coach. He's currently in negotiations for his future position with the University. He was made an offer and he countered. It remains to be seen whether he will be employed by the University in any capacity. I'm not sure why people are so up in arms about this. Standard proceedure, IMO.
Lol at whoever 1 starred this thread.
Thanks for clearing that up.

The simple explanation is usually the correct one. I think there were a few things that happened on the way out that lead Mack to feel his brand was damaged by the process, so I understand his position.

IMO, no one did more damage to Mack's brand than Mack himself.

I would love to see him completely gone.

Good Gravy Coach,

You got a way of telling us how the cow ate the cabbage. LOL

i am not in the camp that would like Mack to stick around in any role for the moment ( even in fundraising - yes, i am sure he would raise a lot of coin for the university) - feel he and Texas need a break from each other - pay him and get it done with

I am in the camp that thinks he should go to ESPN ...thanks for the memories coach... see ya on TV.. UT does not need a meddlesome fundraiser...

I never would have thought I would agree with jimr since he has DeLoss "blindness" the same way Echeese has Mack "blindness".

Clearly Powers . ..
I don't claim to be an insider but clearly their (as in Admin's) goal is to keep Mack around for fund raising. . .I know the foundation people want him. . .

otherwise we would have bought him out with a check. . .
It was written into Mack's contract he would earn a minimum of $500K a year as some kind of athletic assistant. He is trying to get $1.5 mil according to what I read, and he's threating to go nuclear if he is not getting his money.

No one wants his ass around forty acres.

He's not done coaching. I still think this Nebraska thing might have legs.
Remember when he was asked about that in the press conference (can't remember if it was about then Neb job, or coaching in general) and I think his response was that this wasn't good timing to discuss that.

He didn't rule it out, or more likely, he didn't know what the heck he would be doing.

I got the impression from his response that he may not be done coaching. i'm sure it is killing him to go out like this.

I can only chuckle . ..but hey. . .you scored a spelling nazi point . . .

Nice to hear from the herd . . .

Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and try to make a win-win as much as possible. ESPN reported (after Mack's resignation) that Bobby Bowden's force out was so ugly it set the program back for years.

On that note, it shows what a great job Fisher has done. He and Mack both rebooted the programs in 2010 / 2011...one is playing for a MNC.

Think he could do well there, but I don't think he would do Bo pelini wrong right?
Why do you think Mack gives a damn about Bo Pelini? I also read that Army is interested in Mack. Now THAT would be interesting. I wonder if real, intelligent military cadets would be impressed with his act?

Mack truly loves and respects our veterans. . .he is always bringing in military officers to talk to our players.. .

I think he would do very well at Hudson High. . .and considering our players love him. . .why wouldn't cadets?
