She's probably biased so I don't think it countsMy wife tells me I'm am asshole on a regular basis, does that qualify me for membership
Amen, brother. And from where we stand, too, despite what ESPN and Clay Travis may write. Nobody would be bitching about our conference affiliation if we were winning championships in the sports that matter. UT is where it needs to be unless there's a massive, geographic realignment planned.
Big 12 forever!![]()
How did DeLoss cost the Big12 FSU, Doc?Deloss Dodds cost the Big 12 Florida State and, most likely, Clemson. And, if not Clemson, Louisville.
And it was DKR that turned UT into a juggernaut. Just like Saban has with Bama.
Some time has passed since I was given this information, but I will relate it as best I can. The president of FSU was adamant about not joining the Big 12. However, their equivalent to our BOR was all for it and was prepared to override the pres. Louisville was aligned to yes yes, should the offer come. Clemson was 70% in as FSU would coattail them anyway. The Big 12 was oh so close to looking a lot different than it does today. How did DeLoss cost the Big12 FSU, Doc?
Agree that we could've and should've nabbed Louisville, but I've also read that FSU was using the Big12 for leverage with the ACC. They've got some type of undisclosed "special treatment". Don't know what it is, but that's the rumor.
Yeah, the scenario you detailed above is plausible. Some time has passed since I was given this information, but I will relate it as best I can. That takes care of the potential candidates and then here comes Deloss. The Big 12 requires a consensus vote to invite anyone to join and the consensus was in on these three candidate. Texas was not. Dodds convinced enough members to hold their vote off as he was promising Notre Dame, first, as an eventual member. The Olympic sports first, followed, eventually, by football. That was his narrative as he believed what the brothers had hinted at.
Of course ND was playing him like a banjo as they really wanted the ACC and were leveraging that conference for the best deal possible - which they got. FSU and Clemson decided the ACC was best for them and that was that. The ACC made out like bandits and the Big 12 was left holding you know what in their hands.
It was actually past time for both Mack and Deloss to go,
Deloss cut the deal for the LHN. That was his biggest achievement in his tenure as AD, IMO.Yeah, the scenario you detailed above is plausible.
My hope is DeLoss wasn't that stupid IF we had FSU and Clemson lined up. A bird in the hand as it were. ND to the ACC makes more sense for them because the majority of their alumni live in that footprint.
Water under the bridge
I rate aggy's move as desperation more than anything, but I guess it was a smart move for them. I'd wanna put an SEC logo on and co-brand everything, too, if I had to sell fake army and Collie Station.Deloss cut the deal for the LHN. That was his biggest achievement in his tenure as AD, IMO.
Aggy, ND and the ACC were smarter than he as they played his colossal ego to their advantage.
But he cost UT the PAC, the Big 12, FSU, LU and CU and, worst of all, allowed aggy to migrate to the SEC.
The Texas legislature was furious as they had no idea what he was doing behind their backs. His days were numbered and, even he, finally figured that out.
Aggy has squirmed under Longhorn dominance for a hundred years. Wouldn't you want to get away from us after all that time? However, the Texas legislature is populated with alumni from every college in the state. And aggy has always been consider (whether we like it or not) the second top jewel of the state and part and parcel of every thing UT does. The opinions about aggy bolting is they have opened Pandora's box to the SEC taking Texas players out of state and made it difficult for Texas parents ability to watch their kids play. Remember, it's not just football that was affected. But, most importantly, the lege believes the aggy's snuck behind their backs and kept them from hearing what was going down. As a state school, that was a perceived slap in the face to everyone one that wasn't an aggy. That's not a good thing to do to the legislature.I rate aggy's move as desperation more than anything, but I guess it was a smart move for them. I'd wanna put an SEC logo on and co-brand everything, too, if I had to sell fake army and Collie Station.
I'm glad we're not in the PAC. It'd be a bad move for every sport but football and late-night games wouldn't be good for that either.
Who in the Texas legislature was furious besides aggies?
