Defensive players really thriving under Robinson

Since we made the switch to Robinson the transformation of our defense has simply been amazing to watch. For a number of players it is like they were unshackled from a ball and chain around their ankles that had been holding them back....which I guess in some ways is the truth. The guys who seem to really be thriving now are....

Qundre Diggs

Steve Edmonds

Dalton Santos

Chris Whaley (sorry to see him go down...but Tank Jackson stepped in and played great)

Adrian Phillips

These guys are all really ballin right now and making plays all over the place. It's hard to believe these are the same guys that looked so pathetic against BYU.

I totally agree.

Unfortunately, WVU took out our best unit (D-line) in the 2nd half with more quick passes. Maybe I missed it but those guys totally dominated the first half and were ineffective against a quick, spread attack.

This seems to be an effective way to combat our best defensive unit and I believe Okie St and Baylor, maybe even Tech will do the same. Just an observation. I hope GR noticed that and can play Reed or JJ as a Buck on certain downs.

Our blitzing has been MUCH more timely and effective. This is exciting to me and I'm sure the guys love it too!

WVU got great push against our interior DL on goal line situations last night. Hell, Whaley was hurt in one of those instances and they just bulldozed us. Also, it looked like we had some digression with our tackling and especially in space. I had hoped that knocking out their starting QB would let us get some separation, but their backup actually played better than Trickett and we seemed to make him look good with some busted coverages and big cushions at time.

This was by far the worst defensive performance under Robinson. Clint Trickett probably wins the game if he stays healthy, and thats a concern going forward against teams who have strong depth at the QB spot.

The difference last night was Robinson kept those guys fighting and making plays. Under Diaz WV would have scored in the 70s .

You're right, under Diaz it would have gotten ugly...but last night those kids kept fighting and kept making the plays we needed to win the game. It was also the first time Robinson has faced a QB with a pulse since Ole Miss as well which had something to do with it....it's ironic it was their backup QB who did all the damage. Whatever Dana Holgerson may lack as a head coach, there's no disputing the fact he's a heckuva offensive coordinator/play caller. West Virginia played like a poor man's Baylor last night.

I watched the game last night with a local HS coach ( who has a state champ ring btw) and he said the defense so much more simpler than all the funky junky run blitzes _iaz tried to do. He also agreed that _iaz' D "schemes" were not suited for spread offenses. They may work in the ground and pound leagues, but not the B12 especially the second time around.

Good for Robinson.....He is a good person
