SignUp Now!My best guess is some combination of PR, lowering the risk for the decision makers if it turns out to be a bad hire and/or keeping the decision making power away from Dodds (who would have tried to hire one of his buddies)Greatness..Lot of meat on them bones.
The Saban connection and big money guys in Austin is something I would have never thought of, but it makes sense on so many levels.
Luck to the Longhorns. This may have been one of the worst kept secrets, but it does make me wonder.."why the search committee?" Why form a committee when you have your guy?
They definitely know each other well, Saban was the DB coach at WVU while Luck was the QB there. As far as staying in contact with each other, people have said that but I have no idea whether that's true or not.Is it true Luck interviewed for the Texas AD job at an Indiana airport to avoid being tracked to Austin? Does Luck and Saban have a real connection that would make them want to work together?
Agreed, without Saban ties, Luck is at least B+ to A hire, maybe A+ but only time will tell.Luck is a solid, solid hire on multiple levels.
ThisThat was kind of my point. There are SO many more reasons Texas is more attractive as a retirement destination - financially, culturally, climatically, geographically (and every other damn way!).
When the talk of Dodds retiring first started, I had Jurich as 1A and Luck as 1B, either would be a great hire. Either will be a great hire.Luck is a solid, solid hire on multiple levels.
