Crossfire with McPhaul - 11/06/2013

McPhaul, I really enjoy these columns. Keep up the good work. I was wondering about a couple of things. There is lots of talk that Saban is not happy at Alabama after losing a lot of his money on what were supposed to be sweetheart investment deals given to him by the BMDs there. One of the enticements of Texas is that those deals are of a better quality. Do you have any idea what kind of investments that the UT BMDs have Mack into? If it comes down to forcing Mack out, do you have any idea what Macks contract buyout is?

Hey Darrell, I've tried connecting with you a time or two on Orangebloods, but I went to Anderson and knew Pat growing up as well as you. I am closer in age to Pat and lived near you guys by Pillow Elementary. I see Pat occasionally at Ymas and wondered if you ever make it over there? In any event, I was awfully sorry to hear of your Mom passing recently and I hope you guys are doing ok.
Love your content here and plan to be a regular.
Hey,

I was YMAS one night with Pat and he pointed out a table with Cliff Teeler and several other from the old hood. I was going to come talk to you all but, those margarita's got me drunk too quick.

Pat bought my moms old house so, he is still in the neighborhood. I visit as often as I can. I was there two weeks ago for the TCU game. Pat and grilled in the backyard all weekend and watched football. We are all going to have to hook and talk about old times.

PM me!

Drag,

Good to hear from you. I know that Sally & Mack have cleaned up on some real estate deals. I believe the buyout is 2.75 mil.

Thanks for you post McPhaul.
Questions with regards to the LHN. How can this LHN network be viewed as a success when folks outside of Texas can't see half of what we used to see for Longhorn games? Shouldn't this LHN be something that expands the Longhorn brand and allow fans from all over to enjoy UT athletics and spread our brand? How do you think our new AD will address this problem or will he (do you think) do like Dodds has done and simply ignore what's not seen and just count the money?

Shame on me Rush, You are one of my favorite posters.

The only way if can viewed a success is by the revenue it generates. Until a nationwide deal with a carrier is signed, our brand is taking a hit.

Every time I hear someone say or read that Saban would never leave Alabama for UT it makes me laugh. How many times do we have to see in sports an athlete or coach leave a "comfortable" or "great" situation b/c of money. If UT offers Saban 8m/year, he will be the next head coach at UT. Sharing a hunting lease or wives being good friends mean almost nothing in these situations IMO.
I don't care who the next HC at UT is as long as there is a change since it is much needed. However, my belief is if UT is willing to back the Brinks truck up in front of Saban's house, the folks in Alabama better have a plan B as it pertains to their HC position.
Saban isn't just somebody. Do you think money is Saban's driving force?

Saban is in his 60's, has a statue outside the stadium, and is one of the highest paid coaches now. It would be a step down, not even lateral move.

lot of stuff in that Crossfire. However, much of the anticipated good was negated by the notion of Jamail getting involved and the possibility of him trying to push for Mack to return. Mack just wants to break DKR's win record, I am beginning to believe. That would be near criminal, IMO, all considered. Perhaps too he feels that by hanging around another season, he can thwart us getting Saban or someone else he may want to prevent.

My mind set on Mack has changed dramatically the last year or so, unfortunately. If indications from those more in the know than myself are true, he's losing respect pretty quickly with a lot of us.

Yet, his agent says this is the only job he would leave Bama for. I laugh at the notion it is a step down.

yeah, me too. If it's a "step down," it's only because the right coach hasn't occupied the position enough of the time. Mack was actually really close to being that, and in fact was for awhile. Not so much the last several seasons though.

Ok got a response figured this would be the reply from the LHN point of view.......

Sorry I just saw this.... I don't check FB much. I've seen that rumor as well. No one at LHN knows anything really, truth is we are wondering just like all fans, right up to to the people @ the top. That said, we have had a retirement tribute/news piece ready to go for months. I'm sure that's where the rumors are coming from, but that's pretty normal in tv/news.... got to have things ready just in case. At the news station we had obituary stories for certain public figures as they got older as well (lady bird comes to mind). Anyway,I kind of think he's gonna quit but that's just my gut.
