Crossfire with McPhaul - 11/06/2013

As a few others have already pointed out, how do you reconcile Jamail's supposed greater involvement with a 60% probability that Saban comes to Texas? Those two things seem to be highly contradictory.
Remember, Mack found out about the AD hire on Twitter according to Chip Brown. Noodle on the implications of that, especially if Jamail was involved.

Not necessariy. Everyone is hoping that Mack does the right thing and steps down. Patterson is a agent of change and Joe was involved his selection. it is apparent that Browns close friends and some BMD's do not want to be the hatchet man but, so they hire an AD that has no problems ushering in a new era.

Thanks McPhaul, this was my first Crossfire you didn't disappoint. I wish I could say the same for some of the info you shared.
For one:

I realize Jamail is a great attorney who has given huge sums of money to UT. But given the fact that he's damn near a century old and Mack's attorney.

Why does he have the right to dictate what direction UTs Athletic Dept. goes? He may not be alive in six months and yet he's at the center of decisions that could affect the University's future for years to come. I realize you may not have an answer so at the very least this is a venting post for me.

.
Supposedly he's donating $150MM to UT upon his death, which carries a lot of weight. We have enough rich donors to cover that easily though if they have a mind to.

If wasn't for this:

Saban, 53, is 9-2 this season and 48-15 in five years at LSU, taking his team to a bowl game every season. LSU went 3-8 the year before he arrived and 8-4 in his first season. An SEC title followed in 2001, and he led the Tigers to last season's BCS national championship.
"It's the most self-gratifying experience I've had as a coach," Saban said. "But I've always been driven by challenges - the next challenge that makes driven people want to take advantage of the next opportunity." 12/25/04 SEC Digital Network
And this...

Alabama lured Saban from the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday, ending five weeks of denials and two days of deliberation. Saban, who two weeks ago declared "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach," accepted the Tide's job offer job and abandoned his attempt to rebuild the Dolphins after only two seasons. 01/04/07 ESPN
I'd believe him.

I'm just an idiot but I am detecting a slight shift towards Mack returning. I hope like hell I'm wrong/stupid.

Thanks for the report, McPhaul. This will be interesting to watch. Saban having to do a dance with the Alabama media about the Sexton email to Hicks and Mack trying to do his best Jerry McGuire act. Seems there may be a disconnect somewhere with Mack and Joe. If Joe was involved in the AD search and Mack found out via twitter, something tells me Joe may be putting some distance between him and Mack.

He refuses to say I will not be coaching The University of Texas next year. I like our chances right now. The I'm to old to start over and I'm focused on LSU makes me think he is considering it.

Jamail is Mack's attorney. I see no scenario where he acts to remove Mack. I can see him securing a huge payout for Mack.

Is Tillerson a BMD or something? Not familiar with that name.

Briles will fire Mack and possibly hire himself in just a few weeks. Would love Saban too but it just seems far fetched.
If Jamail was the one who hired Patterson then maybe he's not going to tie his hands and if he was going to would Patterson have taken the job? MY guess without knowing either person or anything about them or how they think or what they would do in any given situation is that Patterson would have turned it down. So take that for what it's worth.
Briles? No Way! nope... nope... nope... nope... nope... nope... nope... nope... nope...

MIKE TOMLIN... Most definitely!

Tillerson is the President/CEO of Exxon Mobil, UT grad. I'm of the unfortunate opinion that Saban is no longer a viable option though. He will not like all these reports (distractions) coming out in the middle of his potentially historic season.

Beevomaz those type of stories mean nothing.
Mean nothing? You mean like the whole board freaking out about Luck, only to see Peterson be named AD?

McPhaul - You started a thread entitled "Big Announcement Coming Soon". Maybe I missed it elsewhere, but was this it? Can you give us an estimate when that announcement will be coming and who it will be coming from?

Thanks

You're not an idiot and, there has been a shift toward Mack making the decision. Now can that change? Absolutely, but I am 100% convinced, if Mack wins the Big XII, he will make the decision if he stays or goes. His team has won his way to another year anyway.

but........... like the gal in Zero Dark Thirty said about the chances they had found Bin laden:

You f##kers don't like to hear 100% so I'll go with 95%, but it's 100%

Thanks for the report McPhaul and Shaunsters.

Definitely a lot of information to digest.

I think the next two weeks are huge in regards to whether or not Mack has a possibility to return. And keep a close eye on tomorrow night's Baylor/OU game. If Baylor blows OU out, don't be surprised to see more talk about Mack leaving. Just a thought.

Big Difference between LSU, Miami and Bama

His LSU team won a National Championship in 2003 but his Tiger team finished the 2004 season at 9-3.....He was offered a whole lot of money to go to Miami, and the lure of the NFL was more than he could turn down. He failed at the NFL level, as have a lot of good college coaches, and bailed out of Miami to take the Bama job.

He makes more at Bama than Mack does at Texas.($5.32 million to $5.161 million to Mack) There is little doubt that he could walk into the AD office and use Texas interest to drive that up to unheard of levels.

There is just no credible reason for him to leave Alabama.

Seems very likely the article re Saban to Texas was planted by the "return Mack" contingent.

Also would be likely that Saban, if he's listening to our BMD's, may not like the exposure but knows this is a ploy by that "mack" group timed coincidentally w/the Patterson announcement.

Bama (per another article) is now pissed and set to quell this. But Saban won't allow any "distractions" at this point.

Prediction: if we lose 2 of the next 4 AND Alabama doesn't secure an extension w/Saban after SEC Championship, then I really like our chances to land him.

This. Saban had a chance to instill confidence in the Bama faithful today. My reaction after reading his comment today was a huge smile and I don't wear crimson and cream.
